Nominations for the AFMRD Board of Directors
AFMRD is seeking residency director members to stand for nomination to the AFMRD Board of Directors. The election of board members will be conducted during the AFMRD Annual Meeting.

At this year’s meeting, the membership will elect the following:
  • Three members to serve two-year terms as member-at-large directors.
  • One member to serve a two-year term as treasurer.
  • One member to serve a one-year term as president-elect, followed by a one-year term as president and a one-year term as immediate past president.

It is important that the AFMRD Board includes representation from the diverse members it serves. Interested AFMRD residency director members should review the eligibility requirements and application instructions on the AFMRD website .

Nominations will be accepted through  Monday, February 10, 2020.  
2020 Annual Business Meeting
Members will meet Saturday, April 4, 2020 from
10 am -12 pm in Kansas City for the AFMRD Annual Meeting.This meeting is held in conjunction with the AAFP's PDW and RPS Education Symposium.

During the meeting, AFMRD will elect new members to the board, celebrate the accomplishments of members, and discuss issues important to the AFMRD. Voting members will need to bring a device with internet access (cell phone, tablet, laptop etc) to the meeting.
Salary Survey
The information from the 2019 AFMRD Salary Survey is now available to members. Thank you to all those who took the time to help us with this valuable tool! 

The report provides a look at the compensation within family medicine residency programs. In cooperation with the Association of Family Medicine Administration (AFMA), this document now includes data related to family medicine residency coordinators.

Submit your research: National Conference
poster competition
The AAFP is now accepting applications for posters to be displayed during the 2020 National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students, July 30­–August 1 in Kansas City, MO.

You can submit poster applications on the following topics:
  • Clinical inquiry
  • Community project
  • Educational program
  • Research

This contest is open to AAFP resident and student members eligible to attend National Conference.

Up to 50 posters will be selected for onsite display during the conference. Of those, the top 12 will be invited to give a brief oral presentation for peer review.

Awards for Teachers of Family Medicine
The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recognizes medical education faculty who are deemed to have made exceptional advances in furthering the strategic objectives of the AAFP with two awards. The deadline for receipt of materials for these awards is March 1, 2020.

Exemplary Teaching Awards
These awards were developed by the AAFP Commission on Education in conjunction with the Commission on Membership and Member Services to acknowledge AAFP members who deserve recognition for excellence in teaching, as well as individuals who have implemented outstanding educational programs and/or developed innovative teaching models. One national award will be presented in two separate categories: Full-time or part-time faculty, and volunteer faculty. Former winners of the Thomas W. Johnson Award are not eligible to be considered for the Exemplary Teaching Awards.

Thomas W. Johnson Award for Career Contributions to Family Medicine Education
The Thomas W. Johnson Award for Career Contributions is presented annually to an AAFP member who has made outstanding contributions to education for family medicine in undergraduate, graduate and continuing education spheres. The Commission on Education will review all applications and make a recipient recommendation to the AAFP Board of Directors. This award, as in previous years, will be presented at the 2020 Congress of Delegates, which will take place Wednesday, October 14 in Chicago, IL.
