A 2017 report from the City of Fort Worth estimated the top 25 foundations (both public charities like the North Texas Community Foundation and private foundations, like the Morris Foundation) held an estimated $6,154,000,000 in assets. I am sure that number has greatly increased in recent years, but even if that number stayed the same, it would still represent a considerable concentration of funds dedicated to strengthening nonprofit organizations. Many of us fundraise for nonprofits that were even established by some of these large foundations, so you do not have to look far to see how Fort Worth is shaped by this specific engine of philanthropy.
At the time of that report, the Morris Foundation ranked #7 on that list, and a quick visit to their website shows the breadth and depth of their impact in education, healthcare, and social services.
I hope you will join us on April 11 as we welcome the Morris Foundation’s new President and CEO Elizabeth R. Brands, Ed.D. She is graciously sharing her time and expertise with us, and even if you are not affiliated with one of the 102 organizations they support, I am sure you will find the program to be an invaluable insight into the world of private foundations.
If you have any questions you would like to submit for our conversation with Mrs. Brands, please send them my way by emailing afp.wgentle@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you at Tarrant County College River Campus on April 11!
