Happy April, AFP! April is National Poetry Month, and, hear me out, there are few things in the world of fundraising as poetic as grant writing.
Just like a great sonnet, grant applications usually involve strict forms that require you to carefully choose each word, and a strong grant proposal should elicit a poignant emotional reaction from its audience.
And that's at the heart of it all: the audience. You can put the perfect words in the correct order, compile every last document and have a rock-solid budget; but, if you don't know your audience, and if your audience doesn't really know your organization, you're just hoping that your words will go heeded.
Enter Alex Dunn, CFRE, the presenter at our monthly AFP meeting this April. Alex will be our interpreter, guiding us through the best practices of foundation cultivation, and helping our nonprofits turn institutional supporters into fans of our poetry. I mean grant proposals.
I'll see you on April 10 at ACH!
PS: safe travels if you are headed to ICON and don't forget to get your DFW Philanthropy In Action Conference tickets!
