Data. To some, it’s an android from Star Trek: The Next Generation. For others, it’s often the trigger-word for a splitting headache.
As fundraisers, we deal with the latter (...well, maybe the actor Bret Spiner is donating some part of his royalty checks to nonprofits in Houston). But, huge sets of donor records don’t have to be a pain point or a burden! As Data (from Star Trek, played by Bret Spiner) once said: “the real secret is turning disadvantage into advantage.”
Our data (the information we keep and store in databases), can be a tremendous advantage in our efforts to guide donors and steward donations, and, on May 8, Colton C. Strawser, Ph.D., CFRE, CNP will help us understand how we can use data (not the android, I hope that’s clear by now) to support our organizations’ missions.
Colton’s educational and professional experiences are extensive, and you’ll want to invite a colleague or two so they can benefit from his expertise in helping nonprofits hone their capacity to influence change in our communities.
While we're on the topic of databases, you may be aware of AFP Global’s change to a new membership database. They’re still working out a few borg bugs, and one way you can help their process is by logging into your AFP member account and resetting your password, if you haven’t done so since March 6. Here is some more information about that change.
See you at ACH on May 8!
