President-Elect's Message

According to the latest Giving USA report released this summer, giving by foundations has grown in 10 of the last 11 years and represented 19% of total giving in 2021, its largest share on record. The importance of forging strong collaborative relationships with our local foundation leaders is only growing.

I have really been enjoying the “Funding Conversations” chapter programs this year where we have been introduced to several of our local funders. Many thanks to our program chairs Barbara Clark-Galupi and Brandon Nelson for recognizing the importance of facilitating these discussions amongst our local grantmaking and nonprofit communities. The opportunity to hear directly from funders on their priorities, plans, and how we as fundraisers can create stronger partnerships has been invaluable!

I hope you will join us for September’s chapter program as we welcome R4 Foundation’s President, Bret Helmer for another of these funding conversation programs. After practicing law for 19 years as a federal and state prosecutor in Fort Worth, Bret helped four members of the Reynolds family create the R4 Foundation. R4 supports education, community, wellness, and arts initiatives. I am excited to hear Bret’s insight and perspective as a funder in our community!

Bret is a Fort Worth native and alum of the University of Texas at Austin and St. Mary's University where he received his law degree. After practicing in Tarrant County for almost 20 years, first as a state prosecutor, then as a federal prosecutor, and finally as a trial attorney, he joined the R4 Foundation.
