Chapter Update
December 22, 2020
A Message From the President
2020 has certainly shown to be the year of unpredictable challenges
This year was tough on many nonprofits and we all understand that challenge all too well. But be assured we are here to support you and your organizations in our community.

Wisconsin Funders "Stepped Up" in 2020
WPN report reflects inspiring response, changing practices
The funding community throughout Wisconsin “really stepped up” in an inspiring way to meet the extraordinary challenges facing the nonprofit community in 2020, according to Tony Shields, President and CEO of the Wisconsin Philanthropic Network.

Your 2020 Holiday Song
The holidays may look different this year, but the spirit of philanthropy remains
“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Coronavirus all around
CARES Act tax law changes now will inspire
Good donors to spread their money around…”

Rollercoasters and Hamster Wheels? Ugh!!
Sustaining your organization over the short and long term
Are revenue rollercoasters keeping you awake at night? Is the special event ‘hamster wheel’ eating all your time and energy? Are annual fund deadlines causing too much stress?

I liked rollercoasters when I was young. Now, not so much.

What Does Inclusion Mean?
Hint: You'll have to work at it.
Opening your arms is not enough. People feel included only when you truly invite them in and make them feel welcome.

That’s a good thing to remember – especially for those of us who have volunteered to help lead AFPSEWI’s commitment to stand up for inclusion, diversity, and equity in more meaningful ways.

New Data Shows Small NPO Fundraising Hammered
News you can use
Is your fundraising revenue way down? Well, you're in good company. Here's what you (and your boss...and your board) need to know about how fundraising has suffered at small nonprofits...

This. Is. The. Rainy. Day.
You can help make foundations spend NOW, when charities need it most
Last week, a memo sent to President-elect Biden’s transition team by The Charity Reform Initiative was covered by the Wall Street Journal. The headline was “Make Foundations Spend?” The article went on to explain our proposal to unlock “around $200 billion for struggling charities, without the use of taxpayer funds.” The memo urged the Biden team to include this proposal in its First 100 Days agenda. They are hoping to grow support for this effort by getting more people to sign the petition.

National Philanthropy Day - ICYMI
This year, NPD highlighted philanthropy’s role in furthering racial equity, inclusion, and community change. Almost by definition, communities unify people for collaborative action and shared benefit. That’s why 2020 will be remembered as a year when the unifying powers of community were put to severe test. When circumstances divide us, it’s too easy to lose sight of what unites us. Together, let’s commit to change that.
