Industry News
"For everyone who says, "small is beautiful", there are those who prefer to say "the bigger, the better". When it comes to aero engines, both have their supports but surely no one could think that an engine whose diameter is greater than the diameter of a Boeing 737 is anything less than impressive."
- Aviation Week Network

"More than half of MRO survey respondents indicated that the OEMs' increased presence in the aftermarket (53%) and the maintenance workforce shortage (52%) will be the biggest potential disruptors to the civil aviation aftermarket over the next five years. The 2019 Oliver Wyman MRO survey specifically flagged airframe OEMs' expansion into the aftermarket - either through joint ventures or acquisitions - as a concern."
- MRO Network

"Its wingspan is longer than a football field. The tail is 50 feet from the ground. It was made by reassembling parts from two used Boeing jetliners. On Saturday [April 13], the world's largest airplane took flight for the first time."

Association Update

The Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA) is pleased to announce the official BMP accreditation program roll-out of version 4.0.

Over the past year, the BMP Development Committee has been working on updating the BMP Accreditation process. Specifically, the recycling and disassembly guidance documents have been separated to improve accessibility, and Contracted Recycling has been included as an additional Accreditation subset to the program. As in the past, any edits and/or new language will have the typical vertical revision bars in the left margin.

Similar to the BMP 3.3, under version 4.0, a facility will simply be "AFRA Accredited," and will be audited to one and/or a combination of the following five (5) Accreditation subsets: Demolition, Disassembly, Contracted Disassembly, Recycling, and Contracted Recycling.

AFRA represents companies from across the globe and throughout the aircraft end-of-life supply-chain - from manufacturers to materials recyclers. At the core of AFRA's mission is its Best Management Practices (BMP) guide of recommendations concerning best practices for the management of end-of-life aircraft disassembly and recycling. "The continuous participation and on-the-ground insight from member companies on this evolving program have been essential to the growth and global reach of the Association," said AFRA's Executive Director, Hans Craen.
