Industry News
"Once a byword for innovation and progress, many people now view aviation as dirty and dangerous to the environment. It contributes about 2% of the world's global emissions, and this is set to rise. IATA predicts that passenger number will double to 8.2 billion a year by 2037. Boeing forecasts there will be demand for 42,700-plus new aircraft over the next 20 years. Airbus predicts much the same."
- BBC News

"The long traffic boom has been very good for maintenance. MRO spending is moderately pro-cyclical and tends to grow faster than traffic when traffic is climbing and decline more sharply when traffic declines. But just how good things have been is becoming more clear. Airlines for America (A4A) reports that maintenance spending by nine U.S. passenger airlines grew 8.9% from the first quarter of 2018 to the first quarter of 2019. Over the same period, passenger traffic rose 4.6% and the CPI 1.6%."
- MRO Network

"There is an old adage in aviation that there is no such thing as an aircraft, just a collection of parts which happened to be joined together at a particular time with the ability to fly from one place to another."

Committee Updates
Government Affairs Committee
The Public Affairs strategy is being implemented and a number of meetings will be scheduled with the European Commission (REACH and Secondary Materials units), where AFRA will be represented by Kahina Oudjehani, chair of the committee, and the AFRA Secretariat. After the European Parliament elections in May, relevant Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will be identified and contacted for meetings to present AFRA. An AFRA position paper on the interface between product, waste and chemical legislation is being finalized. With regard to Brexit, UK prime minister was forced in March to ask  EU leaders to delay Brexit as no agreement could be found by UK parties on the withdrawal agreement. The EU has agreed to a new deadline: 31 October 2019. However, due to the resignation of Prime Minister Teresa May, which will become effective on 6 June, it has become even more unclear how and by when Brexit will become a reality. See more here For more information and/or to participate in this committee, please email  AFRA staff.
