Idaho Supreme Court gives the Attorney General one day to rewrite initiative titles

The Idaho Supreme Court has thrown out a set of initiative titles from Attorney General Raúl Labrador’s office, which described a package of election reforms proposed to be placed on the ballot. A Thursday afternoon opinion ordered the attorney general to provide the court with new “revised, substantially compliant” ballot titles by 4 p.m. on Friday.

Meridian man faces federal charges for gunshots on Hells Canyon power stations

A federal grand jury has indicted a Meridian man, U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit announced Tuesday, for allegedly firing gunshots at two power stations in Hells Canyon earlier this summer. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.

Federal court temporarily blocks school bathroom law

The US District Court of Idaho has temporarily blocked a law requiring students in Idaho public schools use the bathroom or locker room that corresponds with their gender assigned at birth.

Podcast: A Water Supply Snapshot

This week, we’re bringing you a snapshot of the water supply in Idaho from the Governor’s Water Summit, where water users and policy makers gathered at the state capitol to discuss water issues. Idaho Department of Water Resources hydrologist David Hoekema gave an overview of surface water and drought conditions, and hydrologist Dennis Owsley gave a snapshot of the aquifers.

State faces abortion lawsuit from higher ed faculty

The lawsuit includes professors and unions from the University of Idaho, Idaho State University and Boise State University. They claim Idaho laws impede speech by a public employee, including during instruction and research at the state’s public universities.
