AG Labrador's office defends assigned initiative titles

Initiative organizers have asked the Idaho Supreme Court to throw out ballot titles from Attorney General Raúl Labrador. The short version reads: “Measure to (1) replace voter selection of party nominees with nonparty blanket primary; (2) require ranked-choice voting for general elections.”

The West Bonner School District has been rocked by controversy and contentious board meetings after trustees named a new superintendent last month. Since the hiring of Branden Durst, a former Democratic state lawmaker and Republican candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction, some patrons have even gotten a recall election on the ballot for two trustees.


Kevin Richert of Idaho Education News joins Logan Finney this week to break down the story, as well as what it reveals about finding qualified staff to work in rural school districts.

Lemhi County fire keeps burning; community meeting held earlier this week

The Hayden Fire, located about 18 miles west of Leadore in Lemhi County, as of Friday has grown to about 14, 745 acres and is at 0 percent containment.


"Thank you to the hardworking firefighters and support crew working to contain the fire! Idaho stands ready to help the Forest Service with containment efforts," Gov. Brad Little said Thursday on Twitter.

Idaho Capital Sun: Jury rules Bundy, Rodriguez to pay $52.5M for Idaho hospital harassment

More than a year after protests at a Boise hospital that prompted a shutdown that diverted ambulances to other hospitals, a jury ordered Ammon Bundy, his associate Diego Rodriguez, and an affiliated network to pay $52.5 million in damages to the medical professionals they harassed and to Idaho’s largest hospital system.

Threats to judges remain a concern in Idaho 

Seventh Judicial District Administrative Judge Dane Watkins Jr. told Idaho Reports that questions of security have become more prominent for those in public service. He’s seen threats against the judges in his district, and against himself. There have been threats, as well as doxing, in which a person publishes an individual’s personal information - such as address and phone number - online to allow or encourage more harassment from others.
