Tools for Uploading Herd Data
When it seems like there’s no time left in the day, we’re constantly looking for tools and resources to assist in making those important, although sometimes daunting, tasks just a little easier. Within the AGA Online Registry Services, members can find tools at their disposal to help do just that. Among those tools are templates to assist members in the mass upload of data in relation to areas of registration, weaning, yearling, scrotal, pelvic, EID and the list goes on. Utilizing the excel templates provided can save you time in entering several measurable details pertaining to you herd at various points of production with ease.
Where can I find templates to upload data on my herd?

In an attempt to expedite the process of uploading data on your herd the AGA encourages members to utilize templates provided.

1. Log into your account on the AGA Online Registry Service

2. In the menu located to the left, select “Tools” designated with a red arrow.

3. From the dropdown, locate the red arrow beside “Integration”

4. Select “Upload”

The AGA Online Registry Service offers multiple areas of data collection for your convenience that can be accessed at any time for your convenience.

After selecting “Upload” from the instructions below you will be brought to a new screen with detailed instructions and a list of templates available; Registrations, Weaning, Yearling, Scrotal, Hip Height, Pelvic, Breeding, Vaccinations, Commercial Cows, EID and Steer.

To download the template, excel sheets for input of personal records within any of the above mentioned categories, simply select template found beside “Downloadable Templates” circled below.

Once data has been entered into the appropriate columns within the template it is ready to be uploaded into the registry. 

1.Be sure to save the file, regardless of data type, in a .txt. file, or Tab-Delimited Text. 
  • Upload an excel document saved in any other format will not work. 

2.Return to the 3rd Party Herd Mgmt Data Upload page by following the steps listed above under “Where can I find templates to upload data on your herd?”

3.Using the drop-down menu provided beside “Data File Contents”, select the appropriate template you intend on uploading information within (Registration, Weaning, etc.)

4.Select, “Browse” and locate the file you wish to upload within your computer files. 

5.Once the file has been selected and the title appears beside “Data File” select “Submit”.

6.After processing, details will be provided on the same screen confirming the number of records updated. 

Tips to ensure a smooth upload:

  • The Member/Herd ID column is asking for your AGA membership number. 
  • This must be included on each line that data is being requested for upload.
  • Ensure all registration numbers include the full AMGV with numbers and no spaces between the letter and numbers.
  • When uploading EID numbers, enter the full EID number as seen on the physical tag. 
  • Be sure to read the description details on the upload screen for the most accurate way to enter the data being recorded. See the example of the weaning data details below: 
Whether these templates are filled using data from records kept at home or data collected using other cattle management software, the convenience of uploading this information into the Online Registry Service is made simple, quick and easy with these integration options.
