AGC of America Named as One of Nations Top Lobbying Operations
For the tenth year in a row, AGC of America has been named as one of the  nation's top lobbying operations
by Capitol Hill newspaper The Hill.
The publication's annual  ranking  of
top lobbyists lists AGC CEO Steve Sandherr as a  top lobbyist.

Sandherr said the listing is a recognition of the strong lobbying team working at  the association, noting that "it is easy to pick up a lot of wins when you get to manage the lobbying equivalent of the  1927 New York Yankees ."

26 Blackstone Valley Technical High School Students Graduate
ACE RI Mentorship Program

On November 27th, more than 70 Blackstone Valley Tech parents, students and administration staff attended a graduation ceremony for the inaugural  AGC MA sponsored ACE RI Mentoring program.  Eight mentors from AGC MA member and allied firms met with twenty-six students for seven consecutive Tuesday evenings through  the Fall.
Students worked on weekly hands-on activities that introduced concepts for the architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines of the industry.  Some of the activities included building structurally sound frames out of spaghetti strands and jelly beans, making a storm water filter in a soda bottle with different filtration media, assembling and testing foam core structural beams to failure, and even creating a critical path schedule for a  school building project.
The highlight of the fall just may have been a Saturday morning hard hat tour at Consigli's Stoughton High School project on Pearl Street. The visit allowed the students to get a great view of the evolution of the project from structure to finishes.
The school administration and parents in attendance conveyed their thanks for the time
and efforts committed by the mentors . Some parents even commented that their children were so excited about the program they  actually talked to them about it at home!
AGC MA is looking forward to another successful program at BVT in the Fall of 2019.

Thanks once again to the ACE RI Mentors:

Consigli Alicia Cox,  Kristy Lyons,  Jonathan Nickerson,  Andrew MacNeil
Gilbane: Matt Kellog
F.W. Madigan: Brett Szymko

OSHA Determines that Trenching and Excavating Worksites Continue
to Warrant Increased Enforcement

Due to the continuing incidence of trench/excavation collapses and accompanying loss of life, OSHA has determined that trenching and excavating worksites continue to warrant an increased enforcement presence nationally.

OSHA has long maintained that employees exposed to potential cave-ins must be protected before the excavation face is in imminent danger of collapse, because OSHA believes that there is a potential for a collapse in virtually all excavations.
