The 2023 General Assembly session gets underway today. While there is not likely to be a battle for leadership like the United States Congress saw last week, it is an election year which means it could be an interesting session, at least for politicos who like to follow the horse-race politics of session.
Regardless of the political climate, the AGCVA advocacy team is on the ground ensuring member businesses and our industry have a strong voice in Richmond.
This year, AGCVA’s advocacy team is led by AGCVA CEO Brandon Robinson, and includes some new faces. With the departure late last year of AGCVA Policy Manager, Kyler Hedrick, AGCVA has engaged the team at Williams Mullen to support its advocacy program. Lobbyists Chris McDonald and Carter Whitelow, who have a wealth of experience and connections in Richmond, will be working with Brandon on AGCVA issues.
AGCVA also works closely with a group of members who comprise the AGCVA Legislative Committee. These dedicated volunteers meet regularly throughout session to review bills and provide feedback to help determine AGCVA’s position. The committee includes a mix of general contractor members, subcontractor members, associate members, and several construction attorneys. This diversity helps ensure AGCVA can clearly understand the complexities of proposed bills and how they will directly affect member businesses. The full list of committee members is below.
