Monday Motivational Meditation

Age is an issue of mind over matter.
If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

Mark Twain

Born on November 30, 1835, in Florida, Missouri, Samuel L. Clemens wrote under the pen name
Mark Twain  and went on to author several novels, including two major classics of American literature:
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

AGE

The spirits of the persons I help are without age. There are spirits wearied by the course of life, but others are as resilient as children. I choose to remain blind to the ages of the persons I serve.

As I grow older in the caring profession, even though there may be more physical aches and pains, I want to view my age as a mass of experiences. Treasuring all that has happened in my life as I care for others is a way of valuing my life and helping them to do the same.

It is true I am not getting younger, but I believe I can age with wisdom and grace. There are things in caring for others and working with others that tempt me to be bitter. I will not allow those temptations to hold sway.

Eternal Age, grant me a view toward each progressive moment in life as an opportunity. Knowing that life will continue to unfold for me as I grow older, never let me doubt the opportunities I will have to do good with my years. At every age, may I be grateful. AMEN.

ACTION:   List five benefits of your current age.  Who has been your model of growing older gracefully?  What adjustments do you need to make and who can help you?   Develop a strategy this week.

About the art and the artist, Carlos Rafael Anzueto

Born in Guatemala, Carlos, a chemical engineer with advanced studies in Food Technology from Cornell University in New York, founded OSMOSIS, a consulting firm for the food industry in Guatemala and Central America 25 years ago. He has always been interested in different forms of art, beauty, and expression and has used his search for differentiation in chemistry to enhance his artistic work.

Carlos Rafael had his first individual exhibit in 1991 in Guatemala when he felt he had developed a style and technique of his own, using acrylics and a porous cardboard support traditionally used as a filter for the clarification of syrups in the beverage industry. Confirmed by critics and the public, his work sold out on the opening night in 1991 and next two individual exhibits in 1993 and 1995. Exhibiting in the most recognized art galleries in Guatemala, the first Central America Art Fair in Miami in 1996 and most recently in Imago Mundi, Luciano Benetton Art Collection of the Benetton Foundation in Italy and The Other Art Fair in London in 2016, his work continues.

His art explores and exploits textures, transparencies, and multi-media, combining acrylics and oils. He emphasizes strong design and composition, a variety of surfaces, sensitive colors and superimposed images and shapes to create a well balanced visually stimulating art. Through this approach, Carlos Rafael challenges the viewer to go over and examine his paintings, building stories and drawing attention to ideas, situations, and processes to provoke a conversation because a conversation is communication.

Nursing Heart is pleased to feature the art of Carlos Rafael in this first series of 2017 called, "Time."

Nursing Heart Friends,

Midland University nursing students from Fremont, Nebraska completed their first outreach to Guatemala this week.  They entered into this experience beautifully and for me personally it was very special in that it was the first time to welcome a group from my home State of Nebraska.  Our team is looking forward to more opportunities with them in the future.   They impacted families by installing stoves and offering a wellness check to young ones getting ready to start primary school in San Martin.   Later they made their way to Lago de Atitlan where they participated in the clinic at Santa Cruz with Dr. Craig Sinkinson.  See www.MayanMedicalAid.org They were great!

Next on our docket is our Nursing Heart group which will include members of our Board of Directors.  We will be building a new clinic in Choabajito with our friends at People for Guatemala while offering clinics there and at LAVOSI.   The majority of our funding for the project has been made by a Nursing Heart friend but we need more help to make our budget on the project.   Can you help us serve the people there?   Here's a donate button.   DONATE.

May these days be filled with happiness and hope for you.   Thank you for keeping our work in mind as we learn and grow with our brothers and sisters in Guatemala. Learn more at Guatemala Esperanza.
Peace,
Ron

The current clinical building is collapsing.  We could really use your help to replace it.
