AGHES Sugarloaf Mountain Family Fall Hike and Picnic

This fun event is this Saturday, August 26, 2023, when AGHES will be hosting its annual family event at Sugarloaf Mountain, a few miles northwest of Germantown, MD. Planned events include a choice of an easy or harder hike up the mountain, followed by a picnic on the ground of the Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard. Per Sugarloaf’s rules, our furry friends must be kept on leashes at all time.

For those who want to hike too, we will meet at 10:30 AM at the Sugarloaf Mountain East View Parking Lot, to walk counter-clockwise on the easy and flat White Trail. At the McCormick Overlook, we'll have the option to split into two groups, one going straight to the top on the Red Trail, and one that continues meandering around on the easy Blue Trail. We will all converge on the winery at 12:30 PM for picnic and wine tasting. AGHES will provide a few wine bottles/wine testing for our adult members at the venue.

Bring a picnic lunch to eat and a dish to share with others. There will be a food truck (Catalyst Hotdogs) where you can purchase food if you do not want to bring a lunch and like Jersey-style hot dogs. Wine tasting is from 12:30-5:30 PM. From 2:00-5:00 PM you will be entertained by the acoustic duo Hepcat Hoodie.

The grounds around the winery are beautiful and very serene, with plenty of grass for children to run around, and tables for the older crowd.

Then please help us provide quality programming in the coming year by volunteering to run for one of the open Council positions. As we turn the corner on the new AGHES, we are trying to get back to the regular schedule of holding timely voting, as noted in our By-Laws. So please consider joining the new AGHES leadership and help shape its future. Members also always have an open invitation to join our Council meetings, which usually are held the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6 pm, including this month -- email us per below if interested.

Positions are open for two 2-year Councilor positions, 2-year Treasurer and Secretary positions, and a 1-year President-elect (followed by 1-year as President, and 1-year as Immediate Past President). You may nominate either yourself or some other member/member-eligible person you know to be a good candidate. See the By-Laws for eligibility requirements and information on the responsibilities of each Council member. Ideas for Events or Programs?

Have ideas for events? Programs? We have been exploring a variety of ideas in recent years, and are continuing to take preventive measures to ensure the safety of our members, such as holding mostly virtual meetings. The Council has been discussing possible in-person social activities in our outside venues that would allow appropriate social distancing and other measures. Let us know of any ideas you have, at secretary@govtox.org.
