Happy November!
As always, there are some really exciting things happening in the Agricultural Institute right now, and we are happy to keep you informed of the goings-on around here.

One of the biggest events we have coming up is the AGI Reunion. It will be held on February 5, 2015 and you can read more about it below, as well as about the Endowment we will be heralding in during the event.

We also want to give you a peek at the different events and activities of the majors at the AGI; in this issue, you can learn more about Ornamentals and Landscape Technologies, Livestock and Poultry Management, and Turfgrass Management. We also have the latest report from our Advisory Board, information about a new program to help students increase their professional skills, and some news about our alumni.

Thanks for keeping up with us!

Introducing the Beals and Sampson Endowment Fund
The reunion this year will also function as the inauguration for the Herman A. Sampson, III and Allen M. Beals, Jr. Endowment Fund for Agribusiness Management. This endowment will be used to support student activities such as field trips. You can read more about this new endowment and about Mr. Samspon and Mr. Beals here.
 Noteworthy
This year, one alumnus and his family were named the 2014 N.C. Outstanding Conservation Farm Family. Josh Bowman and his family have made concerted efforts over the last three years to adapt their farm to use fewer resources, and their hard work has paid off; their farm, which once faced big obstacles, is thriving, and the state has honored them for their efforts. You can read more about their achievements in an article in The Randolph Guide here.

Amplify My Potential
Amplify my Potential, or AMP, is a new program we are offering to our students. The mission of AMP is to provide development opportunities for Agricultural Institute first-year students to help them recognize their potential, and to create a positive change within themselves, the school community, and the world. The program will allow students to build relationships with each other and the faculty and staff at NCSU as well as begin to build a professional network. Read more about this exciting new program here.
Advisory Board Meeting Report
The Advisory Board met on September 24, 2014. The meeting began with an update from the director, Dr. Elizabeth Wilson, continued with reports from several of the Departmental Coordinators, and concluded with subcommittee reports. You can read more about the meeting here.
Ornamentals and Landscape Technology

Ornamentals and Landscape Technologies (OLT) is one of the exciting majors we offer. Students in the major learn the ins and outs of the landscaping trade, and take classes in topics like plant identification, nursery production, soil science, and much, much more. There are also many clubs, activities, and competitions that these students can participate in. Read more about what's happening for students in this major here.

Livestock and Poultry Management

Agricultural Institute students enrolled in the Livestock and Poultry major account for approximately 21% of fall 2013 enrollment, making it the second largest enrolled major at the AGI. Students who major in Livestock and Poultry have multiple opportunities to interact with four year students, become part of clubs on campus, as well as take classes at state-of the-art facilities. To read more about the major, and the different AGI clubs' community service and educational opportunities click here.

Turfgrass Management

The Turfgrass Management major has several important updates and events in the upcoming months including technology updates, events, and employment information. Read more about these updates and events for this major here.

How You Can Help

There are many ways you can help us further the educational goals of our students: volunteer to speak at AGI Club meetings or one of our classes; offer an on-site tour of your farm or agribusiness; work with us to create an internship at your company or family farm; support the Institute through charitable contributions and sponsor our events and reunions.

We have many funds that accept donations, but our Agricultural Institute Enhancement Fund, which supports student activities, is our main source of program support. The new Herman A. Sampson, III and Allen M. Beals, Jr. Endowment for Agribusiness Management Students we told you about above is another fundraising focus at this time. Or, if you are interested in your own named endowment, please contact Chris Wessel in the CALS Advancement Office via email or at 919-515-7678. To see the other ways in which you can donate, visit this website, click "Find a Fund", and scroll down to see the options for the Agricultural Institute.

Additionally, there are three study-abroad programs that our students are eligible to participate in: the International Agribusiness, Law & Culture trip to Croatia and Italy; the International Agricultural Economics, Policy, and Culture trip to London and Edinburgh; and the Exploring Food Security trip to Costa Rica. If you would be interested in helping a student participate, perhaps someone from your home county, please contact us here.
