Dear AGUA Masters,
I am thrilled to announce
John Beck as Asphalt Green’s new AGUA Masters Head Coach, starting March 2. After an extensive search, we narrowed the field to four final candidates who interviewed with Asphalt Green staff and several Masters members. We feel confident that John is the perfect match for Asphalt Green and will raise the bar for the program both in and out of the pool. We want to sincerely thank all of you who participated in this process.
Coach John joins us from Buffalo, NY and brings decades of coaching experience, as well as an illustrious career as a Masters swimmer himself. He is a five-time USMS All-American and holds the Arizona Championship for the 200 and 100 fly in his age group. John grew up swimming competitively and went on to swim in college, first at Notre Dame and then at Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
John has held various coaching roles throughout his career, including Head Coach of Nickel City Race Club and Villa Maria College. He also spent a year in Trinidad and Tobago, coaching the national age-group teams and working with athletes ranging from beginners to Olympic hopefuls. Earlier in his career, John coached for the Swordfish in Sedona, AZ, where he oversaw the learn-to-swim program, the Masters team, and the 13 & under competitive program.
John holds a Bachelor’s degree in English & History from Clarion University and a Master’s degree in Military History from the University of Wyoming. John covered the end of the civil wars in El Salvador and Guatemala as a freelance journalist, boxed as an amateur middle-weight in college, has been to Mt. Everest, speaks Spanish, and has raced mountain and road bikes at the professional level. He has worked all over Central America and South Asia as a professional guide leading groups of trekkers, cyclists, climbers, and surfers.
John is delighted to be joining Asphalt Green and looks forward to seeing you all in the pool and on deck.
Best regards,
