Achieving the Childhood Dream
|
|
Remember in grade school, when the teacher asked what everybody wanted to be when they grew up? Call it my imagination, but everybody wanted to be a firefighter. Now, our very own, Rafa Flores, has made that dream a reality. As of March 15, 2022, Rafa will officially join the heroes of the Fire Department of New York.
Rafa moved to New York City from Texas to swim at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) where he was an All-Star Student-Athlete within the City University of New York Athletic Conference. Needing a job while in school, he joined Asphalt Green as a lifeguard nine years ago.
Rafa was part of the original staff in Battery Park City. Having worked with Pool Operations, Swim School, Waterproofing, and AGUA, he helped establish the new pool and grew with it along the way. Now, we have been blessed to have him serve as the Lead Masters Coach in Battery Park City over the last few years.
While we’ll miss Rafa greatly, we are proud of who he has become and wish him the best of luck with the FDNY. Thank you for your service, Rafa, both at Asphalt Green, and with FDNY.
