These are uncertain times, and all of us will be called upon to be brave in the weeks ahead, mostly in small, everyday ways, like expressing positivity and unity. During this period of social distancing, we will need to step outside our comfort zones and check on neighbors, friends, and family. Take a deep breath and call those who you may not have spoken to in some time.
Brave people are drawn to swimming on a team. Our sport attracts athletes who thrive in water, a wonderful, alien environment with the potential for danger. Perseverance is a given for swimmers. Every set of every practice to date has been a lesson in resilience. We dig deep to put maximum effort into a brutal 200, and then we do it again, and again, ad nauseam. The physical and mental challenges of our sport have taught us to endure what's hard and uncomfortable. We still keep swimming.
We are brave and resilient, and together we will persevere.
