Last week, I concluded our series covering the five most common freestyle mistakes seen at practice. Today, I'm adding an appendix to that series by calling out five truly outstanding things about AGUA Masters' freestyle. While there will always be room for improvement, our team deserves a giant pat on the back for the following:
-
We are a fast group of freestylers! There is no question about that. Based on our times, you are faster than 70% of all Masters swimmers in the United States in your age group—and faster than 99% of the planet!
-
We are safe and respectful freestylers. No one swims down the middle of the lane, arms wide, smacking others in the face during AGUA Masters workouts. Believe it or not, that is not the case in every Master's program. In some clubs, a crowded Saturday morning practice can be a bit dangerous.
-
As a group, AGUA Masters are receptive to constructive criticism, advice, and praise. Being a good freestyler is a bit of an ego dance—you have to have a big enough ego to believe in yourself and get out on the dance floor, but not so big as to believe you have nothing left to learn. Our team threads that needle well.
-
AGUA Masters is full of expert pullers! No one on our team is afraid to grab a pull buoy and a set of paddles to work the heck out of their arms, shoulders, and back.
-
Every AGUA Masters swimmer is doing endless lengths of freestyle out of their love for fitness and the sport of swimming. That automatically makes you a freestyle champion!
Thank you for swimming like a champion. If you have any questions, my door is always open.
