A Note from Coach John
A Personal Approach to Progress
Showing up at practice is only part of the equation when it comes to making progress in the pool. No two swimmers have identical skillsets, and we learn at different rates and in different ways. Masters practices are designed to push the envelope for athletes of all ages and experience levels, but if you want to fine-tune your individual technique, nothing compares to one-on-one attention from an expert.

Last week, we spoke about the importance of investing in your health during these difficult times. This month, Asphalt Green is supporting that initiative by offering a 15% discount on private coaching for AGUA Masters members. As swimmers themselves, our coaches are personally and professionally invested in your success in the pool. Get the individualized attention you need to take your technique to the next level.

As always, my door is open for any questions or concerns. Please feel free to email me at [email protected].

See you in the pool,

–Coach John

Training Tip
Get Medieval With Your Cross-training: The Benefits of the Steel Mace Workout
A steel mace is a long metal rod capped with a weighted ball. What differentiates training with a mace from most fitness equipment is the object's highly uneven distribution of weight, making it an effective way for swimmers to build powerful core muscles. The longer rod extends the distance between your body and the weighted ball, making it a great tool for swinging, twisting, and pressing exercises where core engagement and control are critical. It is also a great tool for building both fast and slow twitch muscle fibers. The offset weight builds kinesthetic awareness by forcing the user to be aware of every movement. These benefits make working out with a steel mace one of the ultimate resistance training methods for swimmers.
