AGUA Masters Weekly Newsletter
A Note from Coach John
Last week we talked about expanding our personal training horizons. Today, I'm continuing that theme and inviting all of you to compete this summer! While most of you joined the team for a good workout and camaraderie— excellent reasons—they are not mutually exclusive with competing. Though there is not much on the calendar in terms of meets this year, there are two big ones coming up: National Championships.

The 2021 USMS Short Course National Championship, is now tentatively scheduled for July 21 to July 25 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Summer Nationals, renamed the 2021 USMS Long Course National Championship, is tentatively scheduled for October 6 to October 10 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. USMS members of all abilities are welcome to participate in USMS National Championship events. All members can enter up to three individual events without meeting national qualifying times. Swimmers who wish to enter more than three events must meet the NQTs for the additional events. Yes, you can swim in a master’s championship meet!

Alternately, try taking the competition off road for a race! On May 15, just 50 miles from Manhattan at Wawayanda State Park in Hewitt, NJ, USAT is holding the 2021 USA Triathlon Off-Road National Championships. This is an incredible course that features a beautiful 1,500 meter lake swim, a 19 mile mountain bike course that mixes single track and fire roads, and a 6.5 mile run through the rolling hills around the lake. No qualification required.

If you have any questions, my door is always open. Please feel free to email me at [email protected].

See you at the pool,

–Coach John

Safety Precautions at USMS National Championships

Due to the ongoing pandemic, USMS plans to limit the number of participants and extend events from four days to five to reduce the number of people in the facility at one time.

USMS and event organizers are working on additional measures to ensure the safety of participants. Any new information or updates will be announced when finalized. Full meet information is expected when registration opens in late May.
