Arabian Racing California Update
The racing season in California ended recently with the Fresno County Fair. It was an exciting season, with two new programs presented by the Arabian Racing Association of California (ARAC), the Maiden series and the Emirates California Gold Rush Handicap series.

The maiden series was open to horses who were maidens (had never won a race) at the time of nomination. They ran at several maiden races during the State fair season at the various tracks. When a horse won, it was no longer a maiden, but was qualified for a special race at the last meet. The winner and Champion was Madjestic, a 3-year-old colt ridden by Francisco Monroy for trainer Terri Eaton and owned by James Schleimer and Nikki Forbes-Robinson. This colt shows really good promise for the next season.

The Emirates Gold Rush Handicap series was a three race open series, with the horses earning points according to how they placed in the races. The horse with the highest points after the third race was declared Champion with added prize money. It was an exciting series with the mare Dream Pearl+ and the stallion Sand Victor dominating. They had run against each other before, with Pearl winning some and Victor winning other times. There haven't been filly and mare races for Pearl, so she has had to run against the boys. Victor is owned by Joe and Betty Gillis of Mississippi and trained by Terri Eaton. Pearl is also trained by Terri Eaton and owned by the partnership of Dorothy Burt, Evelyn Call, Cory Soltau, and Terri Eaton. When Pearl won the first race, we owners were delighted. When she won the second, we were ecstatic. Victor is no pushover. He's probably the top mature Arabian stallion racing in California and ranks among the top seven or eight in the country. On September 23, they met again at Los Alamitos (Los Angeles County) with Pearl winning and Victor second by ½ length. We are so lucky to have her. Nothing more exciting.

Take a look at your young horses. There may be some with racing potential. Just because their parents or grandparents didn't race doesn't mean they can't. A lot of their ancestors probably did. What you want is good legs, athletic ability, and some attitude. Is there one out in the pasture with the physical ability, who always wants to lead the herd in their romps? Have a trainer take a look. If you don't think you afford racing, get a group of friends together to share in the expenses. It's a lot of fun. Don't expect to make a lot of money or to happen on a horse of Dream Pearl+'s quality. But it doesn't cost much, if any, more than showing a horse and, if lucky, you might win some purse money.

ARAC is looking for participants to join in promoting Arabian racing in California. Please consider getting involved. Contact ARAC for information.
Red Bluff Arabian Horse Association

Here is news of note about the 2019 show season. For those who want to get an early start on the year, the Red Bluff Arabian Horse Association is already planning a show in January, 2019.

This is a three day True Value show on January 18-20, 2019. Held in Corning, Calif. at the Rolling Hills Equestrian Center, this is an great way to get going in 2019. This show qualifies for Region 3 and Region 4.

An exciting addition this year is the Region 3 Arabian Off-site Cow Classes for 2019. This will be held Saturday morning, January 19, 2019. The Rolling Hills Equestrian Center is an excellent venue for these classes. Plan to arrive for the Friday cow classes, qualify for Region 3 and compete in the Regional Championship Classes on Saturday.   RBAHA also includes all breeds in designated classes.

This facility has two hotels, a golf course, restaurants, and casino - great amenities for the whole family. Hope to see you there!

The AHA affiliated clubs within Region 10 extend holiday greetings and best wishes for 2019 to everyone in the Arabian community. As we settle into the winter season in Minn. and Wisc., we celebrate achievements with friends, make plans for 2019 and enjoy winter activities with our horses. We also are remembering those who are no longer with us, but whose hard work and dedication paved the way for the accomplishments we have made and hope to make in the future.

Region 10 Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for noon Sunday January 13 in Eau Claire, Wisc.  The show committee will be held prior to the Board meeting.

Region 11

Another year is winding down quickly. With the ending of U.S. Nationals and the Arabian Horse Distance Nationals, the time for participation in horse-related events has begun slowing down fairly quickly. However, whether it is a smaller barn show or just a beautiful day out on the trails, there is still plenty of time to be spent with your best friend, your horse. Enjoy your time with your Arabians and the discoveries you can make while in their company.

We in Region XI have already begun planning for shows and trail rides for 2019, and if you check the calendar of events you will see that there is not a lot of down time between now and the first events of next season. In the meantime, take a moment to give thanks for our association and all those who are trying to do their best for the Arabian breed. Thanks to our staff and volunteers, trail markers, show committees and commissions, rescuers, and all those who are giving their time and talents to promote our beloved Arabian and Half-Arabian horses. I hope that your 2018 ends well and 2019 brings you joy and blessings in all you do! Have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy, and Prosperous New Year!

IN THE KNOW
Kentucky Arabian & Half-Arabian Breeder's Association (KAHABA) has had a busy year with its members! With more and more Kentucky County Fairs offering designated classes for the nominated horses, plus the breed shows, and monthly shows like San-N-Tone and OCSC, there have been venues from east to west. A shout out to the popular Shelbyville Fair Show and Rick Tosch for all of his hard work to get the Arabian and Half-Arabian classes included. We were able to showcase under the lights to a large crowd of horse-minded spectators for the first time in many years!

KAHABA is a state arm of the Kentucky Breeder's Incentive Fund that distributes a portion of funds generated by the taxes paid on all of the stud fees in the state of Kentucky. We are fortunate to be one of the accepted breeds and work very hard to inform the public about our 'Living Works of Art.' We work with the Arabian clubs in Kentucky to help encourage and sponsor participation, although KAHABA is not a club in the same sense.

Our winners of the high point program that runs through the Kentucky Fair Association will be recognized in January  at an awards dinner in Louisville, Kentucky. Stay tuned for photos and a list of our winners!
UPCOMING EVENTS
The Bluegrass Arabian Horse Association will be hosting its Annual High Point Awards & Dinner on
January 26th at the Finchville Ruritan Club. Social hour begins at 5:00 pm,  followed by dinner, a brief meeting, and high point awards. BAHA will supply the meat and drinks, but we ask that you please bring a dish or dessert to share. Bring a friend! This is always one of our most attended events, and we can't wait to see you!

The SAHIBA Awards Banquet and next club meeting will be held at Johnny Carino's Restaurant in Frankfort, Ky., starting at noon on Saturday, January 19, 2019. The address is 1303 US Hwy 127 South, #600, Frankfort, KY 40601, located in the Franklin Square Shopping Center, beside Kroger. SAHIBA will pay $10 towards the meal for all current club members. Johnny Carino's will not be charging for the room, so all attendees are expected to purchase a meal. Please let Deneb Thompson know if you will be attending.

EQUINE AFFAIRE APRIL 11-14,  2019
Preparations are in order for Equine Affaire in Columbus, Ohio! Most of last year's exhibitors are returning, and we are excited to add even more. Luna, Ellie Troutman's mare who is in the movie The Orphan Horse, will be on hand with us and will be sure to draw a crowd. We are in need of volunteers to stay at the stalls and help introduce the horses to the public, and we also need volunteers to help at our booth and for other various needs. Even if you have a few hours, you will be greatly rewarded by sharing your Arabian horse experience with others. Please contact Jennifer Tucker at  [email protected] for more information.
