Rancho California Arabian Horse Association is asking our local and surrounding Regions 1, 2, 3 and 7 members if they would be interested in entering Hunter/Jumper classes at our Spring Show - March, 2019 at LAEC, Burbank. If there is enough interest, we would be willing to add them instead of the Region 1 Dressage Classes. There would still be Region 2 Sport Horse and Dressage qualifying, plus the Region 2 Sport Horse Championship Classes. Please respond to RCAHA President Debbie Moss at [email protected]. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Arabian Racing Association of California Update

The racing season in California ended recently with the Fresno County Fair.  It was an exciting season, with two new programs presented be the Arabian Racing Association of California (ARAC), The Maiden series and the Emirates California Gold Rush Handicap series.

The maiden series was open to horses who were maidens (had never won a race) at the time of nomination. They ran at several maiden races during the state fair season at the various tracks. When a horse won it was no longer a maiden, but was qualified for a special race at the last meet. The winner and Champion was Madjestic, a 3-year-old colt, ridden be Francisco Monroy for trainer Terri Eaton and owner James Schleimer and Nikki Forbes-Robinson. This colt shows really good promise for the next season.

The Emirates Gold Rush Handicap series was a three race open series, with the horse earning points according to how they placed in the races. The horse with the highest points after the third race was declared Champion and won added prize money. It was an exciting series with the mare Dream Pearl+ and the stallion Sand Victor dominating. They had run against each other before, with Pearl winning some and Victor winning other times. There haven't been filly and mare races for Pearl, so she has had to run against the boys. Victor is owned by Joe and Betty Gillis of Mississippi and trained by Terri Eaton. Pearl is also trained be Terri Eaton, and owned by the partnership of Dorothy Burt, Evelyn Call, Cory Soltau, and Terri Eaton. When Pearl won the first race, we owners were delighted. When she won the second, we were ecstatic. Victor is no pushover. He's probably the top mature stallion racing in California and ranks among the top seven or eight in the country.  On September 23, they met again at Los Alamitos (Los Angeles County) with Pearl winning and Victor second by a half length. We are so lucky to have her. Nothing more exciting.

Take a look at your young horses. There may be some with racing potential. Just because their parents or grand parents didn't race doesn't mean they can't. What you want are good legs, athletic ability, and some attitude. Is there one out in the pasture with the physical ability, who always wants to lead the herd in their romps? Have a trainer take a look. If you don't think you can afford racing, get a group of friends together to share in the expenses. It's a lot of fun. Don't expect to make a lot of money or to happen on a horse of Dream Pearl+'s quality. But it doesn't cost much, if any, more than showing a horse and, if you are lucky, you might win some purse money.

ARAC is looking for members to help promote Arabian racing in California. Please consider joining and getting involved.

Region 11

Another year is winding down quickly. With the ending of U.S. Nationals and the Arabian Horse Distance Nationals the time for participation in horse-related events has begun slowing down fairly quickly. However, whether it is a smaller barn show or just a beautiful day out on the trails, there is still plenty of time to be spent with your best friend, your horse. Enjoy your time spent with your Arabians and the discoveries which you can make while in their company.

We in Region XI have already begun planning for shows and trail rides for 2019, and if you check the calendar of events, you will see that there is not a lot of down time between now and the first events of next season. In the meantime, take a moment to give thanks for our association and all those who are trying to do their best for the Arabian breed. Thank our staff and volunteers, trail markers, show committees and commissions, rescuers, and all those who are giving their time and talents to promote our beloved Arabian and Half-Arabian horses. I hope that your 2018 ends well and 2019 brings you joy and blessings in all you do! Have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy, and Prosperous New Year!

Preparations are in order for Equine Affaire in Columbus, Ohio! Most of last year's exhibitors are returning, and we are excited to add even more. Luna, Ellie Troutman's mare who is in the movie The Orphan Horse, will be on hand with us and will be sure to draw a crowd. We are in need of volunteers to stay at the stalls and help introduce the horses to the public, and we also need volunteers to help at our booth and for other various needs. Even if you have a few hours, you will be greatly rewarded by sharing your Arabian horse experience with others. Please contact Jennifer Tucker at [email protected] for more information.
How precious is this? Henrietta and Bill Ellzey recently opened their hearts to the beautiful, Zorrado. Martha Rattner and Bill Ellzey tried their best to surprise Henreitta with this sweet boy. We can't wait to see this pair together!
