Region 2

On August 25, Region 2 held a Membership Appreciation party at the Lowe Show Horse Centre. The weather could not have been better. About 85 people attended, including 20 youth who participated in the Youth and Adult judging contest. Mark Stinson was the judge and did a wonderful job with the youth! Debbie Fuentes from AHA came and gave us very interesting information on the Arabian Horse Association, where we are now and the outlook for the next few years. Benji Zalvala and Carlos did an outstanding job on the barbeque. Fantastic food!!! Meaghan Shaffer did a great job in organizing the Youth Judging. A special shout out to her! Jim not only provided a beautiful setting for the party, but was also instrumental in providing nine of the 12 horses for the judging contest. Jim and his crew of riders, handlers and grooms were amazing! Also, Tammy Burkman brought three more western pleasure horses, along with Jill Kramer and Rachel Nelson as riders!

Also announced were the two Region 2 Scholarship recipients. First is Flora Elm Cologne. She is a sophomore at U C Berkeley. Danielle Garcia is a freshman at U C Santa Cruz. Both are outstanding young ladies with outstanding grades and a dedication to the Arabian breed. We are so proud of them both!

SHARING THE ARABIAN HORSE
Firelight Arabians recently hosted a group of local girl scouts to learn the ins and outs of horsemanship with the Arabian horse. This has been an ongoing adventure for some of the Kentucky girl scout groups, and we have been so excited to be able to share with them.

Rebbel Yell and rider Jennifer Henderson stop let the girls enjoy a close up encounter.

Just like the Arabian, our club members are versatile! BAHA member, Brooke Schafer, owns and shows several Arabians and Half-Arabians, but also has lots of love for her off the track Thoroughbred, Kulik Lodge. Brooke and this dapper chestnut gelding have been showing off their skills in the Kentucky circuit this past summer, and we are very proud of them!

Region 17

The Western Canadian Breeders show was held in Red Deer, Alberta June 27-July 01 on the Canada Day long weekend. The show is the annual fundraiser for the Canadian Arabian Horse Registry. Nearly 170 horses competed for championships in jumping, sport horse and main ring classes. The Saturday Night public Showcase was well attended again, with an estimated 400 people attending.

The show was a dual celebration, as it was the both the 60th anniversary of the Canadian Arabian Horse Registry and also of the Western Canadian Breeders Show.

Several fundraising initiatives were also undertaken at the show for the family of Pat Gallahan,  a well know farrier from Arizona  who unexpectedly  passed away this spring. Pat was well-loved, and he worked at the Canadian National Show many times. Well over $1,500 was raised for Pat's family.

The 2019 dates, which will also be in Red Deer, are scheduled for June 27-30, 2019.

See you all there!!

Region 18
New class offered at the 2018 Royal! The ``Open Saddle Seat Battle of the Breeds`` will be held Thursday November 8, Friday November 9 and the Championship class on Saturday November 10. This class is open to Saddlebred, Morgan, Arabian & Half-Arabian, Friesian and Hackney breeds, and all will have a chance to win $20,000 total prize money! Sounds spectacular!  And, of course the Arabian breed will be at the forefront. We want to have the most breed entries competing, and we want the winners to be Arabian. This is an amazing chance for our exhibitors to have a great time competing under the lights at the famed Royal Horse Show in Toronto and to be judged by Melissa Moore of Kentucky. It's a great opportunity to compete with the world`s best light horse breeds and to promote the Arabian horse! Join us.
