We are thankful
--EJ Thomas, AHACO Chair and
President & CEO, Habitat for Humanity - MidOhio

The holiday season is a time to reflect on what has been accomplished over the past year. For those of us involved with the Affordable Housing Alliance, 2019 has been a year of significant progress. As such, there is much for which we can be both grateful and thankful:
--Community leadership:
We are thankful for the leadership of Mayor Ginther, Columbus City Council, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Huntington National Bank, and The Affordable Housing Trust for Columbus and Franklin County. Their efforts and funding commitments, which have generated significant corporate and philanthropic investments, produced more than $200 million in new funding to develop and preserve affordable homes in our community--an amazing accomplishment! In addition, central Ohio community leaders are working together to develop a Regional Housing Strategy to guide the use of affordable housing funding moving forward.
--Media spotlight:
An important factor in advancing the Alliance plan has been the attention placed on issues of poverty, economic segregation, and affordable housing by
The Columbus Dispatch
and
Columbus Business First
, as well as other local media. We are thankful that they have continued to keep the need for truly affordable housing front and center in the community dialogue.
--Our members:
The Affordable Housing Alliance is strong because of the diversity and collaboration of our members. We are thankful for those members who have been with us from the beginning and for our new members who joined us over the past year.
|
|
--Our sponsors:
The work of the Affordable Housing Alliance would not be possible without the funding of the corporate and philanthropic sponsors who make up our Strategic Advisory Council. Many are also investors in the new Housing Action Fund. We are very grateful for the continued support and engagement of all of our sponsors over the past four years.
--Our resolve:
As we look to 2020 and beyond, we are thankful for the resolve of our members and sponsors, along with an array of community partners and leaders, to continue the challenging work that is necessary to design programs, projects, and policies that can provide affordable homes for members of our community who are living in poverty. Our shared goal is to provide housing as a platform for household stability and economic mobility.
On behalf of the Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio, I wish you a happy holiday season and look forward to working with you in 2020 to close the affordable housing gap!

YMCA will Vacate Downtown Building
The
YMCA announced on October 9 that they plan to vacate their 95-year-old downtown building, which has outlived its usefulness, in three to seven years.
But after showing the seven-story building to several developers, they believe the building will find a new use.
YMCA officials will not leave the building until a home is found for all of its 403 residents. The Y is looking to build two or three residential buildings similar to Franklin Station that it opened in Franklinton in 2013.
