2019 AHAI AFFILIATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
The AHAI Affiliate Leadership Conference is June 1st
AHAI will hold its annual gathering of all our Affiliates throughout the state on Saturday, June 1 at The Westin Chicago Northwest located at 400 Park Blvd, Itasca, IL. Formerly known as the AHAI Annual Meeting, this important event received a facelift last year to better reflect the purpose of the meeting. It was renamed to the AHAI Affiliate Leadership Conference.

The conference is designed to educate Affiliate Leaders and allow AHAI to hear from our members on a variety of topics which include player development, rules and ethics issues, referee retention, goaltender development, club communications and social media, among other topics. An exciting addition to the AALC this year is the Hockey Directors' Breakout Sessions.

Additionally, the conference will include guest speakers from USA Hockey, the Chicago Blackhawks, the legal community, and other subject matter experts. George Atkinson, President of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) will participate in several of our breakout sessions to provide invaluable insight into how other USA Hockey Affiliates operate. Our keynote speakers include Joe Terrasi of the Positive Coaching Alliance, and Tom Slaird (Minnesota Hockey) will lead a discussion on how to deal with difficult people. Just like last year, we will have pertinent vendors that serve our membership in attendance.

Check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. The conference will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there so save the date and bring out all your organization's leaders. ~  AHAI Board of Directors

AHAI NEWS & INFORMATION
Ask AHAI: Tier II 2 Choice Rule & Mite Hockey
Question:  have a question concerning the 2 choice rule. After reading the rule I'm still unclear. My child plays mite hockey for a CUHL team. Does this count toward the 2 choice rule when he becomes a squirt?

Answer: No, it does not count as a choice. This answer is based on Rule 2.7 Tier II Choice/Movement Rules  (The purpose of this rule is to emulate the concept of community based hockey in the State of Illinois).

2) AHAI 8U Two Choice Clarifications: In an effort to clarify the AHAI Tier II Choice Rule as it applies to 8U/ Mites, AHAI releases the following: ANY USA Hockey registered 8U/Mite players for the playing seasons (beginning in the 2014/15 season) will not be assessed with a choice exception toward the AHAI rule; Article 2.7. 2.7.2.

ASK THE OFFICIAL
Ask the Official By Dave Zednik
Question:  If at the start of play (a face-off) there are six players and a goalie on the ice for one team. That team wins the draw and plays the puck to the player trying to leave the ice knowing they have too many men. Is that a penalty? I had an official blow it dead and say it's no penalty. He miscounted. To which I also ask. Shouldn't I always put six guys in if at worst it's a dead puck and face-off?  ANSWER>>

Question: If a team elects to change their goalkeeper, are they allowed to take some warm-up shots before play resumes? ANSWER>>
