HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
What a difference a year makes! We are well into our season, our children are playing hockey and hopefully our parents are enjoying watching them play.

We must be thankful for the progress we’ve made and strive to assure we keep moving in a positive direction.

Enjoy the Thanksgiving Tournaments and please tell the kids to have fun. Remember, this all goes by extremely fast. The running from rink to rink, the early practices the dinners on the run, they will all be missed. Believe me.

As a parent of two adults who started playing at 4 years old, I miss those days. They are times my sons and wife cherish and relive often.

I am thankful for being involved in this wonderful game and I hope we at AHAI can give you memories that you can cherish.

Happy Thanksgiving and Good Health to all of you.. Thank you for your support and choosing this wonderful game for your children.

If you have any issues finding a clinic to attend, reach out to Jim Clare, AHAI Coach-in-Chief at jim.clare@ahai2.org

ASK THE OFFICIAL

QUESTION: What degree of force is necessary for either a hooking or slashing penalty to be assessed under the Standard of Play guidelines?

ANSWER: For hooking, any use of the stick against an opponent’s body that allows the player to gain a positional advantage should be penalized. Examples include a tug or pull that allows space between the opponents to be diminished, impeding the opponent’s progress or causes a loss of balance or a subtle push or tug on the hand/arm that prevents the opponent from being able to pass or shoot the puck with normal force. In the case of slashing, any slashing motion that makes contact with the hands, arms or body of the opponent must be penalized. In addition, any hard slashes to the upper portion of the stick (just below the hands of the opponent), with no attempt to legally play the puck, shall also be penalized.

Early November High School Rankings
By Ross Forman

Loyola Gold is on a roll: 7 wins in their last 8 games, including 3 shutouts during that stretch. And, the Ramblers have only allowed 2 goals in 1 of those 8 games. Plus, those 8 wins have included victories over state powers, such as Saint Ignatius, Saint Viator, Glenbrook South and York, among others.

The Ramblers’ run to start the season has vaulted them to the No. 1 ranking in the Illinois High School Hockey Top 20 Rankings (as of Nov. 4).

Stevenson is No. 2, followed by New Trier Green, Glenbrook North, and York. Co-op PREP is No. 6, followed by Benet Academy, Glenbrook South, Saint Ignatius, and Saint Viator to round out the Top 10. READ MORE >>
Becoming a Student Coach
By Ross Forman

Zander Marino-Sacharoff is a junior defenseman and captain for the co-op D155 Predators Hockey Club, a mix of players from Cary-Grove, Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South and Prairie Ridge High Schools. He has 4 goals, 7 assists in the team’s first 12 games in the 10-team Varsity Gold League of the IHSHL North-Central Division. The Predators’ 14 points only trail league-leaders Leyden and the Spartans (17 point each).

Marino-Sacharoff, who attends Prairie Ridge in Crystal Lake, is a leader out of the locker room, too. But still at the rink.
He volunteers every Tuesday evening with a power-skating class and every Sunday morning with the Minor Hawks program. READ MORE >>

Glenbrook North vs. Glenbrook South
By Ross Forman

With about 4 minutes to play in regulation-time of the Glenbrook North vs. Glenbrook South High School hockey game played the night before Thanksgiving 2019, South’s Mark Ibarra ripped a shot from the left point to tie the game, 2-2.

The Titans sensed this was their night, finally, a win was possible over their arch-rival in, without question, the biggest rivalry game of the year, of every year, in Illinois High School Hockey.

The Titans’ last win in the famed North/South/Thanksgiving game was in 2005, but the momentum was on South’s side late in the 2019 battle, played in Wilmette due to renovations at Glenview’s rink, the normal home for this bitter battle.

More than 1,000 loud, cheering fans were packed into Wilmette.
North wanted the win.
South wanted the win. READ MORE >>
