REMINDER: Coaching Education Program (CEP) Clinics Are Filling Quickly!
CEP Clinics are being posted and are filling up extremely fast. Be sure to check the USA Hockey website, under the Coaches Tab, for available clinics. If you have any issues finding a clinic to attend, reach out to Jim Clare, AHAI Coach-in-Chief at jim.clare@ahai2.org and he will assist you. Again, due to the circumstances of this past year, clinics are filling up extremely fast. Do not get caught short in December by not renewing your certification soon enough. Please note: to register for a CEP Clinic, you must first renew your USA Hockey membership.

Ask the Official by Dave Zednik
QUESTION: Just prior to the puck being received by an attacking player, the defensive player chops down on top of the stick and prevents them from being able to play the puck. Should this be penalized under the Standard of Play guidelines? Does it make any difference as to the angle of the stick blade when done?

ANSWER: The use of the stick to check an opponent's stick or press the opponent's stick to the ice or the boards, is a good defensive play as long as it is done on the lower portion of the stick shaft and the intended purpose is to dislodge the puck or prevent the opponent from playing the puck. The angle of the stick blade (inverted or parallel to the ice), would not make a difference in this determination. However, any time this action is done higher up on the stick or clearly impedes the opponent with no reasonable effort to play the puck, a penalty for slashing, holding or hooking should be called.

AROUND THE BOARDS
Jack Drury Looks To Add To His Family Legacy This Season For The Carolina Hurricanes
By Ross Forman - Jack Drury is spending the summer in the northern suburbs, training, skating and working out - he's hoping to land on the Carolina Hurricanes' roster in the fall after agreeing in July to a three-year entry-level contract with his 2018 draft club.

"I'm excited to get to Carolina," said Drury, 21, a left-handed shooting forward who played two seasons at Harvard University and then this past season in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). In his first professional season in Sweden, Drury had 10 goals, 20 assists in 41 regular-season games and was one of three finalists for the league's Rookie of the Year award. In post-season play, he finished second in the league with 11 points in 14 games, helping his team win the title.

He's been training this summer with, among others, his younger brothers: Owen, Teddy, and Ryan - all of whom will play this fall for the Reapers Hockey Association, which will play its home games this season at the Mount Prospect Ice Arena (MPIA), where the Reapers Tier 1 organization will battle such foes as the Chicago Fury, Chicago Mission, Windy City Storm and Team Illinois, among others. "It's fun to push each other," in the gym, Drury said. READ MORE>>

We had a record turnout and raised a record amount of money for Special Hockey, AHIHA, Youth Sled Hockey, the IHOA Memorial Fund, Blackhawks Warriors, Blind Hockey and the Catastrophic Injury Fund. Thank you all for participating!
