Groups Hail Fourth International Leadership Mission

In a wrap-up statement, AHEPA, AHI, B'nai B'rith International, and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations hailed the fourth International Leadership Mission and found the trilateral partnership between Israel, Cyprus and Greece--now together with the United States in a 3+1 framework--is moving forward on a sustained course with a commitment to achieve peace and stability in the eastern Mediterranean and the broader region. read joint statement

The Order of AHEPA, led by Supreme President George Horiates, participated in the fourth biennial "Three-Country Leadership Mission to Israel, Cyprus, Greece" that brought top American Hellenic and Jewish groups to Greece, Cyprus, and Israel for discussions about deepening, strengthening, and broadening of the partnership those countries are building, with the United States as a "Plus 1" supporter.  read interview

Justice's Alleged Anti-Greek Slur Denounced
AHEPA denounced an anti-Greek ethnic slur allegedly made by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Barry Ostrager during a settlement case in October 2018, and calls for his ouster, announced Supreme President George G. Horiates. read more

Trump, Erdogan talk Libya cease-fire, Syria fighting in phone call
UPI (Jan. 28)

U.S. President  Donald Trump  and Turkish President  Recep Tayyip Erdogan  spoke by phone late Monday to discuss the fragile cease-fire agreement in Libya, and fighting in Syria, the White House said. "President Trump also highlighted the importance of Turkey and Greece resolving their disagreements in the eastern Mediterranean," Deere added. read more

EU refugee agency EASO to double staff in Greece to speed up asylum process

The EU agency for refugees, the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) said on Tuesday it will double its staff to 1,000 in Greece in the coming months to help it cope with thousands of migrants and refugees stranded on five islands.  read more

Fitch upgrades Greek credit rating by 1 notch to BB

Fitch ratings agency on Friday raised Greece's credit rating by one notch to BB with a positive outlook, implying that a further upgrade could come in the future.  read more

Exclusive: Hackers acting in Turkey's interests believed to be behind recent cyberattacks - sources
Reuters (Jan. 27 )

Sweeping cyberattacks targeting governments and other organizations in Europe and the Middle East are believed to be the work of hackers acting in the interests of the Turkish government, three senior Western security officials said.  read more

Greece expects tourism growth this year despite bumpy 2019: minister

Tourism, which accounts for about a quarter of Greece's gross domestic product, will grow in 2020 despite the blow dealt to the sector last year by the collapse of British travel giant Thomas Cook, Tourism Minister Harry Theocharis said on Thursday.  read more
