In the meantime, AHF is donating $100,000 to provide immediate relief and long-term support for the displaced Temple Court residents as they seek to rebuild their lives. We've also launched a GoFundMe so that others can donate to this cause. Donations will go directly to the residents in the form of spending gift cards.
Many of these senior residents have been overwhelmed with the challenges they are facing, but they've shown great courage and resilience during this time. Atlantic Housing Foundation’s President and CEO, Michael Nguyen, went to Miami the week of the fire to visit the residents and meet with city officials, and he saw many community members joining in to help support the residents in this time of need. In a recent news release, he said,
"We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County and the local nonprofits and businesses that have generously donated their time and resources to help the displaced residents. The fire department and local law enforcement did an outstanding job putting out the fire and safely rescuing residents, nearly all of whom are elderly. While we have secured temporary housing for the residents, and are working to find them more permanent housing solutions, our residents have lost nearly everything. We need your help to get them back on their feet."
