Alumnae Milestone Celebrations and Upcoming Events

Happy New Year!

We are already underway for the second half of our school year and gearing up for several entertaining opportunities to get together with alumnae living in various parts of the country. This issue will highlight just a few of them.

I am already working on our alumnae event calendar for 25-26 fiscal year. Thank you to alumnae who have already agreed to sponsor an event and donate their time. If you are looking for ways to engage with our community, share your ideas with me and let's make it happen!

Please complete the AHN on the Move survey below if you are interested to host or sponsor a regional event in the United States. I'm so thankful to have heard from so many of you already!

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for anyone with LEGO robotics experience to serve as a mentor for our middle school students. If you are interested in volunteering your time after school, please let me know.

We are also looking for anyone in the Albany area who is interested in joining a group which will help maintain our AHN archives.

Email me to learn more about these opportunities.

God bless,

Katie Ann McDermott '98

Why We Give: Share Your Memories

Throughout the remainder of our school year, our alumnae newsletter will feature videos and testimonials from our alumnae, partners in education, legacy family members, founders of our scholarships, and community members. Everyone has a story of why they love AHN and how they continue to donate their time, talents, and treasure to our school.

Please email me if you would like to be featured in one of our upcoming issues and on social media!

"Holy Names truly holds a cherished place in my heart. The school fostered a close-knit community through meaningful service projects that taught us the value of giving back, Mass celebrations where we prayed together and a strong athletics program that brought us together as teammates. When I think back on my four years at Holy Names, I can’t help but smile, as the memories are filled with joy, connection, achievement, and love."

Sponsors Needed for Induction Ceremony

More than half of our seniors have chosen a sponsor for our annual Senior Alumnae Induction Ceremony: either one of their legacy family members, former SJNM, or alumnae from our community. There are still a few seniors who are looking for a sponsor and they have asked me to reach out to our alumnae community.

If you are interested in being a part of this special event on Tuesday, May 20, please email me and let me know.

Distill my Heart

As a proud legacy family, returning to the Academy of the Holy Names with my daughter Scout '30 has been an incredibly special experience.

I attended AHN as a student and fell in love with the community, the sense of belonging, and the values instilled in me. Now, having my daughter embrace the same school that shaped me is truly a full-circle moment. My love for AHN goes beyond my time as a student- it's a place where lifelong friendships and a deep connection to our faith and learning are formed. Returning to this nurturing environment, where I once grew and thrived, is a joy. It feels like coming home.

In addition to my role as a parent, I'm proud to run Simply Scout Designs, a styling business that focuses on helping clients express themselves through personalized and custom designs. You can find Simply Scout Designs listed on the AHN Connect Business Directory.

Another exciting business my family is involved with is the Albany Distilling Company where they work to bring local spirits and community together. We are thrilled to be part of the AHN community and encourage everyone to check out both businesses on the directory for local support!

I'm also excited to sponsor the upcoming AHN on the Move: Albany Distill My Heart! event at Albany Distilling on Thursday, February 6 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Enjoy a spirits tasting, some delicious DeFazio's pizza, and friends!

It's going to be a great time, and I can't wait to see everyone there! Let's celebrate our AHN community and have some fun!
