Vivian Named New Director of Institutional Advancement

Kristin Vivian P'14, P17, a former member of the Holy Names Board of Trustees, has been named AHN’s new Director of Institutional Advancement. Vivian stepped down from her board role, which she held for three years, to accept the position.

“I am honored to take up the role of Director of Institutional Advancement,” Vivian said. “I recognize the impact of Nora Ritinski, the previous director, and I look forward to working on behalf of a school I love, forming relationships with Alumnae and other community members who recognize the value of an AHN education for young women.”

Kristin can be reached at 518-438-4895 x219 or at kvivian@ahns.org.

Quinn McNaughton '22: Courtesy of St. Bonaventure University's Facebook: "SBU students spend Spring Break serving at the St. Francis Inn, Philadelphia. Serving 200 meals each day along with helping at the clothing closet makes for a full day.

(Tonight) we will learn about the effects gentrification on the marginalized of a community. No easy answers, in the meantime we keep caring for those who are hungry."

Stefania Bonnani '21, a junior at Fordham University, is being recognized for her work in the lab. At Fordham's Rose Hill campus, she is currently studying heart disease in fruit flies, the spread of an invasive plant species, and sea turtle conservation.

Catie Vivian '14: Kristin Vivian, a (former) member of the Board of Trustees at Academy of the Holy Names (and AHN's new IA Director), says her daughter Catie used to be very shy girl, especially when Catie first made the transition to high school at AHN.

“As a freshman I was intimidated to be in a new place with new people, curriculum, and expectations of me, says Catie. “After the first several weeks having been immersed and adjusted to AHN, I knew I was going to enjoy my experience over the next 4 years.” Read Catie's story here.

Nora Fazioli Matthew '07, founder of Her Strength Studio in Latham, was featured on News10ABC.

Nora and her team want to help customers find their inner strength.

Andrea Riccio ’05: Teacher Colleen Jones puts the emphasis on participatory in her Participatory Government classes. Reading isn’t enough. She wants to expose her students to opportunities and careers in the arenas of law, government, and politics.

How do you empower students to see other females thriving in areas where they are typically underrepresented? For Jones, it’s simple. She’s created an interactive speaker series over Zoom featuring Academy of the Holy Names alumnae who are experts in these fields. First up, Andrea. Read more here.

Kristen Hans Curran '04, director of Government Relations for the New York State Catholic Conference is featured in The Evangelist. Kristen gave a shoutout to AHN in the interview, saying "I try to stay involved with Holy Names because I had such a great experience there and they do such great work."

Aaren Hatalsky Harris '95: It's not just current students making headlines, but Holy Names alumnae as well.

Harris was featured on Spectrum News Albany for the "Little Wings Farm School" pre-school program she created which serves to inspire future farmers.

Tamara Thorpe-Odom '92 joined her daughter, Sandra Odom during her senior theology class for a presentation during Black History Month. The pair were also joined by Sandra's grandfather, Earl Thorpe.

Earl appeared via Zoom and shared with the class his life of activism in the Capital Region.

Thorpe was a member of the doo-wop group The Fidelitys which appeared on American Bandstand and performed at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Thorpe delighted the class with a rendition of "My Girl."

The class was also joined by filmmaker Chris Howard, who features Thorpe in her upcoming civil rights documentary "The Activist Next Door."

Joan Lipscomb Arthurton '87 was featured in the Times Union, which highlighted her role as a Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility teacher. Photo Courtesy: Will Waldron, TU.

Sheila Hogarty Mendleson '83, a breast cancer survivor, joined senior Morgan Hannafin on a recent episode of her "Pink Panther Podcast."

Hannafin created the podcast for her senior service project to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Sheila is responsible for Business Development and Collaborations at Pretty Rugged. The blanket manufacturer was recently featured on ABC's Shark Tank.
