From The Chair

Forgive and you will be forgiven. Forgiveness is the one thing that makes loving our neighbor as ourselves genuine and easy.

HouseFrom the House

Hartford residents will soon see a significant drop in their motor vehicle taxes. I worked hard for two years to protect the car tax cut that families will begin to see July 1 of this year

Open House And Hartford Blooms

Northside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance, Inc. (NINA) marked the completion of its newest home in Asylum Hill with an open house that was attended by fifty people.  Attendees saw the house, enjoyed food and drink, and listened to live music provided on the front porch.

Kevin

"Kevin's Kourt" a new addition to AH Boys & Girls Club

UCONN Head basketball coach Kevin Ollie had a dream, one that he was awake for. He witnessed a team mate from his days as a UCONN player suffer paralysis from a car accident, and it opened his eyes to the special challenges that people with similar conditions face. He also was inspired by the determination and drive that so many people with special challenges have. He has wanted to do something to help, and on June 6th, his dream became reality.

Jazz

Jazz On The Lawn Concert

The Asylum Hill Congregational Church and Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association are sponsoring a 'Concert on the Lawn' in front of the church at 841 Asylum Avenue on Sunday, July 24th, 4-6 PM. The concert will feature the local musical group Conga Bop. Conga Bop fuses Afro-Cuban influenced rhythms and hard-bop harmony to create unique, soulful originals and creatively arranged jazz standards. This nine piece band is led by acclaimed drummer Ed Fast and AHCC's own Jorge Fuentes. The concert will include children's activities with food and Italian ice trucks.

Marshall

13th Annual South Marshall Street Block Party

Overcast skies only threatened but didn't dampen the good time the children of every age had on Tuesday afternoon. Starting with the Hartford Proud Drill, Drum & Dance Team right through to the Salvation Army's Hartford Citadel Dance Troupe, this year's program was all about moving. Even the Hartford Hot Several, - a brass band took, their show on the road as they followed their leader and singer Josh Michtom and his portable PA up and down the street.

Ballet

Sleeping Beauty

It was a beautiful if slightly warm afternoon that gradually morphed into a beautiful if slightly cool evening during the course of the Hartford City Ballet's production of Sleeping Beauty. The sun provided the stage lighting for most of the performance and it
was a steady, slowly changing warm to cool as the afternoon went to evening. This is to say that the performance was truly enchanting. Not that there weren
't challenges from the wind and a few difficulties with the sound, but the dancing that we all came for was beautiful.

Hartford Blooms 2016

The 2016 Hartford Blooms Garden Tours season was a great success!  Please plan on coming to the Bushnell Park Pump House for a celebration of that success and a fundraiser for coming events, including First Night.  There will be food, music and a happy hour bar with a chance to meet the many supporters of this great organization.  There is a suggested donation of $20 to help support the efforts of Hartford Blooms to make Hartford bloom.
