2019 Legislative Session Recap

The General Assembly's regular session ended on June 5th with a balanced budget and other significant legislation passed. I'd like to highlight some of the issues we addressed in the new state budget and other impactful legislation.
For more than a decade residents in Asylum Hill have complained that there was just no sit down restaurant in the neighborhood. People recalled the days when the Comet Diner was a great place to go to meet friends and have lunch, dinner or just a cup of coffee. While we're all waiting to see if Georgetown Associates can make that happen again, there is an alternative, and it's not at all bad.
In an effort to connect more fully with the community that they protect and serve, the Hartford Police Dept. has begun to move their monthly CompStat meetings from the Police headquarters at 253 High St into the neighborhoods.
For June they chose Asylum Hill and the venue for the monthly AHNA meetings, the
On June 10
th, more than 30 experts from various fields joined Senator Dick Blumenthal at Asylum Hill Congregational Church for a roundtable discussion on the most recently escalating crisis of drug overdose deaths. On Sunday June 9
th when the meeting was announced, it was reported that Hartford had sustained 42 drug related deaths this year.
Mother Nature was kind to AHCC for their 'Jazz on the Lawn' concert Sunday afternoon. Although there was a contingency plan to move inside if the weather did not cooperate, the hope was to have the concert outside as the name implies. At 3:00 PM a thunder shower passed over Asylum Hill with a brief downpour causing concern, but it soon passed on and things although breezy were quite pleasant and rain free.
