From The Director

From the Executive Director
David MacDonald
On April 30 th , AHNA held its first annual Community Partners Appreciation Breakfast. This event is AHNA's official kick-off to our fund development campaign for 2019. The breakfast was sponsored by Wheeler Clinic.  About 30 of our partners attended our Tuesday morning "Thank You." AHNA's work in Asylum Hill is only possible because of the generous volunteer and financial support of our partners.

From the House

Greetings to my friends and neighbors in Asylum Hill!

Opening Democracy to More Voters
I'm proud that one of our signature pieces of legislation this year was approved overwhelmingly in the House. A Constitutional Amendment on early voting is a step closer to being on your ballot in 2020.

Volunteer Of The Month - Rev. Mia Douglas

Reverend Mia came to Asylum Hill Congregational Church on April 7, 2015 to begin her work as Director of Discipleship. It was the merging of the Director of Outreach and Director of Member Engagement positions. For Rev. Mia this means that she is a connector.

Donate Life

On April 5 th, AHNA Board members and friends joined with New England Donor Services and the Mark Twain House to celebrate the special place that organ donations hold in Hartford and especially here in Asylum Hill.

22nd Annual CIRC Awards

The Connecticut Immigrant and Refugee Coalition held their 22nd annual awards ceremony at the State Capitol building in the Old Judiciary Room on April 17th. Nineteen members of the immigrant community in Connecticut were honored, including three from Hartford. Not surprisingly, Georges Annan Kingsley from Asylum Hill was one of them.

Health Screening Camp At Grace

On the last Saturday of April, a group of volunteers from the Greater Hartford Sathya Sai Center came to Grace Lutheran Church for a free health screening for the neighborhood and beyond. This was especially significant because they partnered with Wheeler Clinic across the street.
