The Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association's mission is to empower and connect residents and stakeholders to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood. We continue to navigate the uncharted waters of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amidst all this uncertainty, however, we know we need to learn how to do things in a new way, our "new normal." This means that our next general meeting will be done via video/teleconference. If you receive our newsletter via email then you will receive an email detailing how you can join our virtual general meeting. Increasing Hartford's COVID-19 Testing Capacity

The key to restarting our economy and protecting our community is increasing access to COVID-19 testing. The stronger our testing capacity, the better our position.

Governor Ned Lamont announced a new partnership between the state, Quest Diagnostics and Hartford HealthCare to increase testing in the state to add an additional 2,000 tests per day - including additional testing capacity in Hartford.

While nearly all of our attention this month and much of last has been taken up with trying to live with out being together, the natural world outside our doors has continued as always without so much as a ripple. In fact if anything, given the plentiful rainfall and sunshine, it seems to be doing as well as ever.

Volunteer Of The Month

Volunteer of the Month - Grace Friday Night 2.0

Grace Lutheran Church began feeding neighbors in need more than nine years ago, and up until March, the protocol was always the same. A rotating group of volunteers would arrive at about noon and begin going through the fresh food that had been secured the day before from Foodshare and arrive at the menu. They then prepared enough for at least 150 or more people so that after everyone had their fill, there would be leftovers for those who needed it to take home.

The Book of Steamships by Peter Sparre

It was just over six years ago that Peter Sparre was featured in a column in the Asylum Hill News & Views. In part it describes his desire to publish a book of his scale drawings of the steamships that traveled the Atlantic Ocean from the late 19 ^th Century until their demise after the Second World War.

Easter and beyond in a time of Sheltering in Place

There are many practices that we have all come to rely on that are no longer allowed in this time of COVID 19, but few as emotionally charged as the regular celebration of community worship. This is especially true for the Christian celebration of Easter as well as the Jewish celebration of Passover and the Muslim celebration of Ramadan, all of which come in April this year.
