Dear Friends of AHP,
We want to be sure you are aware of this recently published ABC-AHP-NCNPR Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program (BAPP) Botanical Adulterants Prevention Bulletin (BAPB) on Panax ginseng (Asian ginseng), P. notoginseng (tienchi ginseng), and P. quinquefolius (American ginseng) roots and root extracts. The bulletin provides important up-to-date data on adulteration, including improper labeling and the use of less expensive plant materials, substitutions, and fillers. In addition, current analytical methods used for adulteration detection are summarized, along with supply and market factors that are necessary to consider in regards to ginseng adulteration.
The bulletin, which was written by Nilüfer Orhan, PhD and peer-reviewed by 19 global medicinal plant quality control experts, is freely accessible on BAPP’s homepage on the American Botanical Council (ABC) website https://www.herbalgram.org/resources/botanical-adulterants-prevention-program/ (registration required).
We hope this is helpful to you. Please share with all QC staff and others who will benefit from it.
