There are many available options related to technology for today's savvy clients, and this course will help guide participants through the myriad of choices. Participants will walk away from this course with a comprehensive overview of current home technologies available in today's connected homes. The in-depth discussion will include wired vs wireless, integrated systems - what they are and how they work - and engaging a trained electronic systems professional. This overview will also help attendees plan for proper wiring infrastructure in an increasingly wireless world.

Learning objectives:

- Identify various residential systems and their unique qualities
- Define benefits of technology related to energy efficiency and savings, comfort, convenience, and safety
- Analyze the considerations related to wired systems vs. wireless systems
- Recognize essential timeline for engaging an electronic systems professional in the design and build process

Applications are available for the Leadership Louisville's 2021 Class and are due:
May 22, 2020.  
 
The AIA-CKC is offering Leadership Grants of up to $2,000 to help offset some of the costs of participating in this program for any chapter member. If interested, please send a letter of interest for the grant by June 12th to Monica Jones at [email protected].
 
Leadership Grant recipients are asked to serve on the Board for the calendar year after receiving the grant.

Webinar - "Single Component Metal Design Best Practices"

As architects push the boundaries of design, the need for a material that offers the greatest amount of flexibility is required. From the vast number of aesthetic options, superior durability, cost efficiencies, and ease of installation in all weather conditions, single-component metal panel systems offer such flexibility. 

At the end of this program participants will be able to:
  1. Identify the various performance goals and market sectors for architectural single-compnent metal (SCM) panels
  2. Recall the components and construction of a SCM panel wall
  3. Describe each finish options maintenance requirements, performance and durability
  4. List the custom fabrication and accessory options available in the manufacturing process of SCM panels
  5. Design an energy and resource efficient wall section using an insulated metal panel (IMP) back-up wall and SCM panels

Virginia Tech School of Architecture and Design is offering a webinar on the "Structural Technology for Intern and Practicing Architects" on May 30 and 31.

The webinar instructor is Dr. Mehdi Setareh, Professor of Architecture at Virginia Tech School of Architecture and Design. He will go over the material to prepare intern architects for the Architecture Registration Examination. In addition, it offers 20 AIA HSW/LU hours.
