AIA Dayton has a new telephone number!

Just as the days of the telephone booth have been replaced by mobile devices, the AIA Dayton telephone landline number finally reached its expiration. The new number for AIA Dayton is 937-280-4634. Please make note of this number for when you need to reach the office.

AIA Dayton Architectural Scholarship Open for Applications Now Until March 3

The AIA Dayton Architectural Scholarship Fund of the Dayton Foundation was established to encourage and assist students graduating from high school and college students from the Dayton/Miami Valley region to pursue a degree in architecture at a college or university with a NAAB accredited architecture program. The fund is administered by AIA Dayton, and each year a committee reviews applications and awards scholarships to deserving students. This year there will be $4,500 to award.

To qualify, student must have received or anticipate receiving his or her high school diploma from a high school in the AIA Dayton geographical area – Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble or Shelby counties. Current college students who are attending a NAAB accredited program and who are from AIA Dayton’s geographical area are also eligible to apply.

Applications are due March 3, 2023 by 4:00 pm. Students must go to www.daytonfoundation.org and click on ScholarshipCONNECT to access the online scholarship application.

Registration is open for the the joint AIA Dayton - SAME Kittyhawk Post Topgolf event in West Chester!

The outing will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 PM, and includes lunch and beverages. You don't have to be a golfer to play Topgolf -- you just have to enjoy being both indoors undercover and outdoors at the same time, mingling with your colleagues, and having fun!

42nd AIA Dayton Art in Architecture Student Design Competition

Kicks Off January 21

The 42nd AIA Dayton Art in Architecture Student Design Competition will kick off January 21, 2023, with a half-day charrette.  Fifty students have registered for the program to date.

The program is designed for college-bound high school students, grades 9 through 12, interested in art, architecture, or design. The competition is open to all students within AIA Dayton’s nine-county geographic region (Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby Counties) and/or zip codes beginning with 453, 454, 455, and 458. The event is limited to the first 80 students who return their registration form with the $25 per student registration fee. 

Registration is open to students until February 1 here.

The 2023 project is to design a Funk Museum of Music!

High school students will design a museum and music space inspired by Dayton's Funk Music history in the 70s and 80s. They will learn what a museum for music will require by creating a new space that could house the Dayton Funk Center which has been in need of a permanent home. Student will meet directly with the funk center director David Webb as well as designers who have made an impact on designing for music.

Ohio Board of Building Standards Update

December 2022 Update: The moratorium in R.C. 3781.1010 which prohibited the Board’s rules from requiring the installation of a storm shelter in any school building operated by a public or private school expired on November 30, 2022. The moratorium also expired for any school building undergoing or about to undergo construction, alteration, repair, or maintenance unless “financing has been secured” prior to November 30, 2022. The Ohio Attorney General issued Opinion 2019-027 in response to the Board’s request for guidance on the meaning of “financing has been secured” in R.C. 3781.1010.
