The Nominating Committee presents the following slate of candidates to be voted on by the membership at its annual meeting. The slate of candidates:

2024 Ohio Building Code Update

This program will highlight the major non-structural changes in the 2024 Ohio Building Codes (OBC), with emphasis on chapters 1-11. A New Day for Old Buildings! (2024 Ohio Existing Building Code)

This program includes an overview of the code modifying Chapter 34 and how it can and should be applied by architects dealing with existing buildings. Using the code correctly can save buildings, help improve the preservation of existing structures that can provide significant savings of energy, materials and resources, while maintaining important community textures and population. Building Envelope Roundtable – Balancing Energy, Moisture, Temperature, Comfort, and Cost

The next adoption of the State building codes will impact the building envelope and the performance of buildings. The presentation will review the relationship between the building envelope, the mechanical systems, and the selection of different materials. Biden administration will define zero emissions for buildings
The Biden administration is proposing a “holistic federal definition” that “can provide a unifying guidepost for real estate professionals to strive for zero emissions over time,” said Duane Desiderio, senior vice president and counsel at the Real Estate Roundtable, which represents real estate firms and trade associations. The three-pillar approach “addresses both megawatts of energy use avoided by building owners, tenants and other occupants as well as new renewable energy generation,” he said.

The American Institute of Architects published the newest edition of its annual 'By the Numbers' report, providing a detailed analysis of the energy performance of architecture and design firm signatories of the 2030 Commitment.
The 2030 Commitment is a global architecture and building industry initiative, aimed at achieving a carbon-neutral future. The 'By the Numbers' report tracks the progress and delineates the strides made by architects and designers towards this ambitious goal.

In 1986, Willie Nelson designed and built a town in Texas: architects at Cushing Terrell just restored it.
Willie Nelson—folk legend, guitarist, outlaw, chain smoker, freedom fighter, town planner?
That’s correct. The pop-up town of Luck is a short drive from Austin, Texas designed by Nelson for a 1986 full-length film he produced and starred in, Red Headed Stranger, that was never torn down after production ended. Luck is an Old West Potemkin Village of sorts that can easily be confused with the fictional town of Rock Ridge in Blazing Saddles starring Mel Brooks, Cleavon Little, and Gene Wilder.

Notre-Dame Cathedral’s Reopening Is Set for 2024 as Its Spire Emerges From Rubble
One of the oldest and most iconic features of the Paris skyline is set to rise again.
Despite a series of major setbacks in the project that is unprecedented both in its scope and design, the reopening of the most visited edifice in Europe—which saw some 12 million people annually before it burned—is on track for Dec. 8, 2024, just missing President Emmanuel Macron’s five-year goal to open in time for the 2024 Summer Olympics in and around Paris.
