New technologies are constantly being developed that have the potential to greatly impact AEC services and performance. Join us for a discussion regarding new technology -- 3D scanning, drone surveying, and Virtual Reality -- and how these technologies can help architects, engineers, and contractors during both the design and construction phases of built spaces.

We will discuss what these technologies are, how they are being used, and how they can positively impact safety issues, health considerations, and efficiency in design and construction. The presenters will discuss the limitations as well as the opportunities of these technologies.

The designer is embarking on a crusade to persuade architects and developers to create buildings that inspire feelings of joy and stimulation.

He is also calling on the public to send him photographs of particularly dreary structures in their area to help him create a new “Boring Building Index” of Britain’s worst offenders.

New York Subway Stations, Through the Eyes of an Architect

Chan started her detailed visual study of New York City’s most complex subway stations in 2015 and has continued to update it. The first time I heard about the Goatman was in my elementary school library. I don’t remember when — probably third or fourth grade. I was an avowed fan of “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” so I picked up a book with a similar collection of ghost stories and urban legends. That’s when I found out there was a half-human, half-goat monster lurking in the woods near my home, right in Prince George’s County.

DC Confronts Its Biggest Obstacle to Downtown Revival: Federal Buildings

Some federal buildings were underused long before the pandemic, according to the mayor. Even if the buildings were completely empty, their high-security design and other features would make them difficult to repurpose for other uses like housing. Bowser says she needs more help from the federal government in solving the problems created by a dearth of downtown office workers. That includes not just sending workers back to the office, but thinking strategically about how to make changes to the urban core.
