Join your fellow members, associates, and sponsors and bring guests for an afternoon of camaraderie and fun golf skills games! Register as a bay of 6 or individually and we will assign you to a team. You don't have to be a golfer to enjoy TopGolf - it is a game that both golfers and non-golfers can enjoy!

The outing includes plentiful snacks and three hours of TopContender Tournament games in the cozy TopGolf open air bays (heated, if necessary).

Augmented Reality as an Approach to Successfully Execute Design:

Following the program, participants will be able to:

1. Understand how to effectively impact an improvement in the design efficiency and collaboration with the Construction Team to allow for better installation and management of the underground plumbing, HVAC and electrical, and above ground layout of walls, soffits, counters and other design elements.
2. Understand the impact on overall budget control and schedule with a more efficient and collaborative layout process.
3. Learn collaborative techniques to allow for better execution of the intended design component with limited rework and schedule delays
4. Learn how the augmented reality approach in concert with precise communication impacts the constructibility of complex shapes, and underground utilities that will impact the physical, emotional, and social well being of the building occupants and building owners, as well as efficiency of installation of building components.

Grassroots 2022, AIA’s premier chapter leadership training event, is happening February 22–24 with visionary keynotes by some of the most exciting voices in leadership, equity, and sustainability. This year's event is all digital so you can learn, collaborate, and network from anywhere.

AIA: Blueprint for Better

The issue of climate migration—also called strategic relocation or managed retreat—has become increasingly urgent in the face of extreme weather and rising seas. These migrations can exasperate existing inequities. Our newest article, "How Can Managed Retreat Be Done Equitably?" discusses possible solutions.
 
AIA's Blueprint for Better campaign is a call to action for AIA members, architecture professionals, civic leaders and the public to transform the practice of architecture to achieve a zero-carbon, resilient, healthy, just, equitable future for everyone.

Alex Bohler, AIA, Recognized at Sinclair Community College
On January 31, Dr. Lori Zakel, Interim Provost at Sinclair College, announced the College’s Adjuncts of the Year for the 2020-2021 academic year.

AIA Dayton Student Design Program Announced and Seeking Donations from Firms
 
Our 2022 high school student design competition is now underway, and we are asking for your support! This year's program is to create a welcome center that would create a space for introduction to the opportunities that a makerspace can provide. Please consider donating as a firm and/or individual to support future architects and designers. Donations are needed for the college scholarships, book awards, registration sponsorships, and event costs, such as refreshments and T-shirts.

Remote Bangladesh hospital named world's best new building

The biennial International Prize celebrates buildings from around the world that demonstrate design excellence and social impact. On both points, the Friendship Hospital, Satkhira clearly excels. The project, which was designed by Kashef Chowdhury/Urbana and commissioned by Non-Governmental Organization Friendship, is located in the remote water-laden landscape of southwest Bangladesh.

13 Stunning Examples of Reflective Architecture
Though most appreciate the styles of baroque, gothic, and neoclassical, there’s something enticing about buildings—whether they be residences, offices, museums, or public works of art—that boast a more modern edge. And, of course, technological developments in architecture have allowed today’s designs to be all the more forward-thinking. That said, one material that instantly lends itself to modernity is reflective glass. Whether it’s the element of mystery or the aesthetic simplicity of mirrors, architects around the world are cladding their masterpieces in reflective glass, and people are loving it.

This 'zero waste' Japanese building is made from 700 donated windows

Planks of burgundy cedar wood frame 700 mismatched windows, forming a patchwork quilt of glass panes against a backdrop of mountain peaks and rolling groves of evergreens.

The facade of the Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center is striking, to say the least; almost as striking as the fact that it was built from trash.

Located on the banks of the Katsuura River, on a double-horseshoe bend in the remote mountain town of Kamikatsu in southern Japan, the center was opened in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic and has become a new heart for the community.

U.S. Green Building Council Ranks Its Top 10 States For LEED In 2021

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced the ranking of its annual Top 10 States for LEED, with Illinois once again topping the list and demonstrating leadership in green building. Illinois certified 3.16 square feet of building space per person under LEED in 2021. The LEED rating system provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings and was created by USGBC as a leadership standard defining best practices.

AIA Report: Nonresidential Building Sector Should Expect Healthy Rebound through 2023

According to a new report from the American Institute of Architects, the nonresidential building sector is expected to see a healthy rebound through next year after failing to recover with the broader economy last year.

The AIA’s Consensus Construction Forecast panel—comprising leading economic forecasters—expects spending on nonresidential building construction to increase by 5.4 percent in 2022, and accelerate to an additional 6.1 percent increase in 2023.
