Small Firm Exchange News

Join Ohio’s Small Firm Exchange (SFx) representative Sarah Kleiner, AIA Cincinnati for a virtual SFx coffee chats where small firm leaders can engage with one another, discuss issues facing small firms today, and see what the AIA can do to support Ohio’s small firms. Virtual chats will take place 8:30-9 a.m. monthly—even months on the third Thursday, odd months on the third Tuesday.

The mission of the Small Firm Exchange (SFx) is to advance the mutual interests of architects practicing in small firms. SFx representatives connect small firm leaders in their local and state components to the national organization. AIA members practicing in small firms are encouraged to reach out to Sarah to discuss how the AIA could better support their practice.

The next SFx is 5/16 https://aiacincinnati.org/programs/events/051623-small-firm-exchange-ohio and 6/15 https://aiacincinnati.org/programs/events/061523-small-firm-exchange-ohio. Register for the calls to receive the virtual call information!

In the Heart of Manhattan, a Natural Wonder Arrives

I see the space, formally known as the Kenneth C. Griffin Exploration Atrium, as the body of a jellyfish or octopus, stretching its tentacle-like corridors in all directions. From every vantage point, the atrium displays a different chiaroscuro of daylight and shadow, urging the visitor to wander in search of what is hidden.

“You can let your curiosity lead you,” said Jeanne Gang, the architect whose Chicago-based firm, Studio Gang, designed the Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation. The museum’s $465 million expansion opens on May 4.

The World’s 11 Most Beautiful Repurposed Buildings

Modern architects are undoubtedly under more pressure than their predecessors to prioritize sustainable design, which has resulted in some revolutionary eco-friendly architecture. With environmental sustainability mirroring the zeitgeist of 21st-century life, it makes sense that creative new methods to repurpose buildings are being implemented across the globe.
