Two Events Planned to Honor Longtime Chapter Activist Terry Welker, FAIA

Join us for a Happy Hour celebration on July 28 at the Century Bar, downtown Dayton. Raise a toast to Terry for his years of service to AIA Dayton, AIA Ohio, and AIA National. Terry has agreed to remain active with AIA Dayton in his retirement. Stay tuned!

Electronic Access Control - Security Continuum for Openings

This course provides an overview of electronic access applications for door openings including: Mechanical locking, stand alone keypad, electronic cylinder, hard wired, wireless, and power over Ethernet solutions.

This Zoom presentation is approved for 1.0 AIA HSW credit.

Presented by ASSA ABLOY, the program is for architects, specifiers, owners and other design professionals in the non-residential market.

Join AIA Dayton for a Roundtable Discussion with Dayton Mayor Jeff Mims and City Staff

AIA Dayton is continuing its tradition of periodic meetings with city officials. These were discontinued during COVID, with the last in-person meeting being held in December 2019. Join us for this in-person meeting at Sinclair Community College, where Mayor Jeff Mims and many of his staff, will join us to discuss City of Dayton procedures for plans submissions, downtown improvements, and upcoming items of interest to the design build professionals.

Representatives have been invited from many city departments, and a listing will be provided prior to the meeting. Bring your questions for the City, and get to meet all the players.

There will be refreshments at 8:30 am, followed by the Roundtable discussion, which will be moderated by Dave Bills, AIA.

Join AIA Ohio July 28-29 as part of this year’s exploration of technology in architecture. The AIA Ohio Technology Summit is a mix of “over the shoulder” experiences allowing members of the design community to better understand changes in technology and the impact those changes have on the profession. From 3D printed homes to the use of drones and bioluminescent flora, sessions will focus on new trends in advancing the art of the architectural profession. The Technology Summit is AIA Ohio’s look at how others, in Ohio and beyond, are using technology to advance, improve, and expand the impact of architecture.

AIA Film Challenge 2022 is Open!
AIA Film Challenge 2022 invites you to share stories of architects working with civic leaders to design sustainable and/or equitable communities.

This year, we’re asking for 1:30- to 3-minute short documentary films that you can produce on any device—including smartphones, tablets, and GoPros—for a chance to win up to $7,000. Winners will also receive exposure on AIA’s online channels, as well as via partner film and architecture organizations.

What recession? AIA Consensus Construction Forecast Panel optimistic about the construction outlook for this year and next

Commercial construction recover underway, and key institutional categories are bottoming out, but industrial sector seen as providing disproportionate share of growth.

Construction spending on buildings is projected to increase just over 9% this year and another 6% in 2023 according to the mid-year update of the American Institute of Architect’s AIA Consensus Construction Forecast. This outlook is somewhat more optimistic than what was projected at the beginning of the year, largely due to the extremely strong gains in the manufacturing category, as well as surprising strength in retail facilities.
