Five Rivers Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), committed to increasing access to quality, comprehensive care to all patients including low-income and uninsured. Since it’s opening in 2022, the Edgemont Campus is the largest FQHC site in Ohio.

Services housed within the new facility include women’s health, pediatrics, dental, internal medicine, pharmacy, sports medicine, behavioral health, acupuncture, massage therapy, addiction medicine, nutritional services, transportation, administration, and billing. Through input from the community, staff and patients, the Edgemont Campus has 88 exam and procedure rooms, drive-through pharmacy, community space, and on-site laboratory and x-ray. Care is provided by Physicians and Certified Nurse Practitioners from Wright State Physicians Inc. and FRHC Physicians and Physician Assistants. FRHC provides an exceptional learning environment for more than 100 Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine residents and fellows.

The challenge during the planning stage was consolidation of multiple locations into this one larger, multipurpose building. The new 84,000 SF medical office building provides for a better “one stop shop” experience for the patient, allows providers to be utilized in more than one capacity efficiently, and creates a unique and inviting space for the patients.

Is This an Office or a School? Designs Blend as User Needs Overlap.

As parents get back to the routine of taking their kids to school, they may notice some of those buildings are looking a lot more like their own offices.

Designers are putting more emphasis on the outdoors at both property types. Classrooms are getting placed in gardens with benches and spaces for group talks, new rooms have plenty of windows and chairs, and tables can more easily be moved. That's also happening in workplaces after the pandemic sparked design changes.

The Best Travel Destinations for Architecture Lovers, Ranked

When you think of the best travel destinations for architecture, your first thoughts are probably some of the typical top cities people want to visit for a number of reasons. Barcelona for GaudiRome for Salvi, St. Petersburg for the Rococo movement, Miami for the Art Deco movement. And don't get me wrong, those are some great spots to take in the work of some of architecture's great minds.

But there's a whole world out there full of architectural delights. Building supplies retailer Buildworld identified the top 10 cities on every continent, based on Tripadvisor reviews of local architecture, as well as a ranking of the top 20 cities globally. “We analyzed tourist reviews of architectural sites in hundreds of cities around the world to find which areas have the highest density of top-rated buildings,” the study stated.

Commercial, Industrial Design Work in July Propels Growth for Architects

Design projects for commercial and industrial properties were the strongest area of business for architecture firms in July, according to a monthly report by an industry trade group.

Billings from architects and designers sent to clients in July reached a score of 50, according to a monthly index of invoices compiled by the American Institute of Architects and software company Deltek. Scores higher than 50 on the AIA-Deltek index mean there was a monthly increase in billings. A score of 50 equates to no monthly change.

Innovation By Design 2023

Design is the story of human intervention. Without an architect, a building is just a box. Without a UX designer, a website is just a string of code. In a year defined by lightning-fast advancements in artificial intelligence, it can be hard to remember that it’s humans, for better or worse, who ultimately shape the built world.

Behind each of the winning projects featured in this year’s Innovation by Design Awards is a team of people who challenged themselves to solve thorny problems. Their ingenuity has resulted in products, buildings, tools, and ideas that push their respective fields forward (here's our methodology for picking winners). Below, you’ll find inspiring work from up-and-coming designers to companies with household names. All of the projects are a reminder that it takes more than an algorithm to understand—and solve—humanity's most pressing needs.

Architecture bodies responding to "real risks" of AI

Architecture bodies including RIBA and AIA are putting together guidance and policy requests to governments to help the profession deal with the potential risks and benefits of AI.

Artificial-intelligence (AI) technology has advanced rapidly in recent years, with the emergence of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Midjourney raising serious questions for the creative industries.

Architecture-specific AI models like LookX promise to revolutionise the process of designing buildings, but there have also been warnings that architects' jobs could become at risk.
