Designing Low Slope Roof Drainage for Climate Change/ Severe Rain Events (1.5 LU|HSW)

This presentation will focus on why designers and contractors may be contributing to a potential roof collapse and solutions for improving roof drainage. The presentation will discuss the flaws in the current code, where low slope drainage design can improve by designing low cost upgrades and potentially save lives.

Energy Decarbonization Blueprint (1 LU|ZNCD)

Utilizing four case studies, this course explores how to create a new blueprint for energy decarbonization that aligns with the changing electric grid. An overview of energy infrastructure changes that are taking place in the state of California will be provided alongside how these changes impact the types of building systems being considered for a multi-family building, a school, a healthcare project, and an office building.

Augmented Reality (AR) Demonstration: Presenting Your Projects within their Urban Context (1 LU)

Michael Hoppe of Geopogo will walk participants through newly developed tools to automatically place building designs within their accurate urban context. These tools replace physical models and physical mockups with more profitable low-cost virtual models which can be billed to clients.

The Future of Energy Decarbonization and Resiliency (1.5 LU|ZNCD)

As the building industry shifts focus from the metric of energy to the metric of greenhouse gas emissions, the relationship between buildings and their energy utilities is changing. This session will look at pathways for building decarbonization and the potential for grid-interactive buildings to lower emissions quickly and enable a faster transition to a decarbonized grid and localized energy resiliency in the future.

Residential Energy Storage Systems by Jonathan Clark

The 2022 code update brought additional energy requirements, in response to the State of California’s continued push to be more energy conscious. The growing use of electrical appliances, to replace gas appliances, results in the need for more electricity and also the desire to not waste the electrical energy that we generate or harvest. Therefore, new code requirements surrounding Energy Storage Systems have been introduced.

ABI May 2023: Architecture firm billings bounce back

Business conditions at architecture firms bounced back in May, following a modest downturn in April. The AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score for the month was 51.0, the highest it has been since last September. In addition, inquiries into new projects and the value of new design contracts also bounced back this month, with inquiries reaching their highest level in nine months, and design contracts increasing for the first time since February.

The City of Pleasant Hill is looking to fill a vacancy on its Architectural Review Commission. The five-person Commission reviews site plans, architectural structures and signage primarily related to new development in Pleasant Hill.
