Our 2023 Lecture Series was a Roaring Success! What Will 2024 Bring?


The 2024 AIA East Bay Lecture Series, Leaders Shaping Our Community, is going to build on the 2023 successes by continuing to highlight design excellence, contributions to architectural education, and/or advancement of the profession of architecture in the East Bay. In 2023 we highlighted the East Bay’s legacy. In 2024, we are going to concentrate on the relationships between owners and designers.

Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG)


After over 20-years in the making, the Access Board has published new guidelines under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) that address access to sidewalks and streets, crosswalks, curb ramps, pedestrian signals, on-street parking, and other components of the “public right-of-way”. These guidelines also review and include shared use paths, which are designed primarily for use by bicyclists and pedestrians for transportation and recreation purposes.

AIA Bay Area Local Internship Network (LINk)


This AIA Bay Area Local Internship Network (LINk) is organized jointly by AIA San Francisco, AIA East Bay, and AIA San Mateo County. Members of these chapters are eligible to post internship positions through this network.


Winter internships are typically short, but can be a transformative and valuable experience. Mentorship is a critical part of a student’s learning experience and has a lasting impact on future pathways.

ABI September 2023: Architecture firm billings decline sharply


Business conditions at architecture firms deteriorated in September. The AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score of 44.8 for the month is the lowest score reported since December 2020 during the height of the pandemic and indicates that the share of firms reporting declining billings has significantly increased.
