FALL IS HERE!
....and so is the rain and cooler weather (at least for a few days)! A s we head into the the latter part of the year, we have many exciting events coming up so stay tuned and look for ways to get involved!  Please also note our annual meeting / holiday party date established below - your holiday schedules will fill up before you know it!

MENTORSHIP BY DESIGN

The Mentorship by Design program is an all volunteered based, student led mentor placement initiative designed to pair individuals working in the profession like yourself with students preparing to transition from the classroom to the worksplace. The program provides students with the opportunity to learn from experienced professionsals and begin to build their professional network. The program is for architecture, interior design and historic preservation students.

EKC ANNUAL MEETING & HOLIDAY PARTY  

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH  /  6:30 - 9:00pm 
Mark your calendars and plan to attend this year's event at the HopCat downtown.  The evening will coincide with the CANstruction awards ceremony and feature the annual meeting/elections and year-end review. It is also an opportunity to mingle with peers and allied sponsors.    

We ask that you please encourage AIA members from your office or colleagues to join you for an eventful evening. New members for 2018 will also be recognized.   
CANSTRUCTION LEXINGTON 2018 

BUILD DAY IS NOVEMBER 12TH: 
AIA EKC is hosting the second annual CANstruction Lexington event! This year's program, which will benefit God's Pantry Food Bank, offers a fun way to get creative and bring attention to Lexington's design and construction industry, while also providing a valuable service to your community.
 
The event is being held at The Lexington Convention Center (430 W Vine St) with a build date of 11/12/18 and a deconstruction date of 12/3/18. (5) Teams have registered, so please make plans to view these incredible sculptures while on display. The awards ceremony will be held on 11/29/18 at the EKC annual meeting / holiday party. DESIGN SLAM 2018

The 2018 Design Slam was held at West 6th Brewing on September 15th. It featured (4) teams, including Omni Architects, UK AIAS, Bristol Group and Pop Up Office (CoD Faculty) going head-to-head in a 1-hour design competition. The program called for the design of a duplex to promote affordable multi-family housing in Lexington. After the final designs were revealed and votes from the crowd counted, team Omni Architects emerged victorious. Congratulations! 

Proceeds from the event benefited the Lexington Habitat for Humanity!

CALL FOR 2019 AIA EKC OFFICERS & DIRECTORS

Be on the lookout for correspondence regarding a call for nominations for 2019 AIA EKC Executive Officers and Directors. If you are interested in volunteering and becoming more involved in your local chapter and community, this is your chance!
KY BOA - NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

AIA East Kentucky welcomes Cordelia "Dee Dee" Harbut, who has been named the new Executive Director of the Kentucky Board of Architects. Harbut replaces T. Rexford Cecil, AIA, who retired in late June.

Blue Grass Stockyards Lexington (October 12, 2018)
Since 1946 Blue Grass Stockyards has operated with the highest level of integrity and commitment to customer service.  Nomi Design will be leading the tour on Friday, October 12th. Be on the lookout for correspondence regarding tour time and registration information.  
UK Student Center Building Tour (November 1, 2018) 
Jeff Bennett, AIA of Omni Architects will be leading the tour of the new UK Student Center on Thursday, November 1st from 11:45am - 1:00pm. Be on the lookout for separate correspondence regarding registration for this upcoming building tour.
