AIA Indianapolis March Programs - Join members, sponsors, and friends of AIA Indianapolis on Thursday, March 10, as we learn about the Rebirth of the Nomadic Studio of the J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program, part of the School of Art, Architecture + Design at Indiana University. The program will be lead by T. Kelly Wilson, Director of the Graduate Studies program at IU's School of Architecture, Columbus and Associate Professor Daniel Martinez. Just back from the Studio's first adventure abroad in two years, students, Wilson and Martinez will share their experiences, recollections and lessons learned while in Berlin and Rome. A full gallery of sketches and drawings from the both students and instructors will be on display throughout Columbus, Indiana’s Republic Building, the venue for this program. AIA Indiana State Disaster Assistance Program/I-BEAM – The AIA Indiana State Disaster Assistance Program is run through the Indiana Building Emergency Assessment and Monitoring Team (I-BEAM). Steve Alspaugh, AIA, as seen on the left in the photo, serves as the AIA Indiana State Disaster Assistance Coordinator and recently completed "On-Site Leader Training For Post-Disaster Building Safety Evaluation Teams" with I-BEAM team members. The I-BEAM team consists of trained and qualified volunteer engineers, architects and other qualified personnel. This volunteer program enables these members of the community to offer their time and talents to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) in the assessment of the safety for use or if entry should be restricted of buildings deemed to be essential facilities following a natural or man-made disaster. If you are a government employee, architect, engineer or similar and would like to volunteer to be a part of the I-BEAM team, please CLICK HERE to fill out a volunteer form.

The Indiana Architectural Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization, founded in 1973 with the core mission of supporting architectural education, enhancing public awareness of architecture, and preserving Indiana’s architectural legacy. For the past 45 years the IAF has awarded scholarships to deserving students, published books on Indiana architecture for both professional and amateur readers, and provided grant funding to a diverse array of projects that align with our core mission. SAME Scholarship Opportunities - Architecture Scholarships Available - Applications are now available for a number of scholarships supported by the Society of American Military Engineers Kittyhawk Post. The Kittyhawk Post grants scholarships annually to encourage students in the Post’s region (Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky) to pursue careers in fields related to the Society’s mission - engineering, architecture, construction, facilities management and environmental management/science. The program is designed to cover all levels of post-high-school education to include baccalaureate, and graduate degrees. Grants are unrestricted, and they are usually offered in the $1000 to $2000 range, as funds allow. Building Enclosure Council of Indiana - On April 21, 2022, the Building Enclosure Council of Indiana will be hosting a hands-on seminar discussing sheet metal design and fabrication, specifically related to building enclosure and facade components. The seminar will include a tour of a metal fabricator shop and presentations on the materials, equipment, limitations, and design considerations for sheet metal utilized in building enclosure and facades. The seminar will be held at AFAB’s facility on the east side of Indianapolis. This session will be submitted for AIA CE Credit. For more information contact Logan Cook at LCook@wje.com.

AIA/ACSA Intersections Research Conference - Call for Abstracts - The AIA and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) are pleased to announce the third annual joint AIA/ACSA Intersections Research Conference dedicated to the intersection of Education, Research and Practice. This two-day virtual conference, which is scheduled for October 6 and 7, will include dynamic presentations of current research and keynotes and sessions offering new ideas, models for practice, and challenging our profession in addressing the critical issue of climate and resilience. Intersections research conferences are intended to strengthen the intersection between academia and design practice, especially when it comes to research and innovation—with this year's focus being resilience strategies.
